Hi. no recurrence doesnt always mean thats the end. I have had two recurrences since inital diagnosis in 2007 and currently NED. thats not to say the fear never goes but I just keep going thinking I could get run over by a bus tomorrow. Try to stay positive there are new treatments coming along all the time. Wising you well. Kathy xx

Hi Lovely Lady,

I had a friend who got diagnosed with cancer when he was 9 (different type I know), however he lived for 20 years nearly with cancer, had several reoccurrences before sadly passing away last year, but he was and in his memory is one of those inspiring people who was a miracle story, he was told he wouldn't live past secondary school eventually they told him he'd be lucky to reach 30, unfortunately he didn't reach 30 but doctors kept saying you'll be lucky to hit 16,20,25 he reached all of them and had the attitude of I'm going to beat it the whole way through.

Hi,

I once read a story about a man living with terminal illness who overheard someone say he was dying of cancer and his reply was "you are either dead or alive and I am very much alive and enjoying myself today so that's good enough for me. Let the future look after itself". So many people are living well with recurrent OC (myself included) and treat it as a chronic disease. There are new drugs coming up that could increase our survival time; so although we may need repeated treatment and have to cope with side effects, we could enjoy life for a lot longer and waste that time if we focus on our demise.

Take care.

I'm being treated for my 3rd recurrence and I'm still alive. I got the impression that recurrence was the end from my first oncologist, but I think that's because she said it couldn't be cured and I made the worst interpretation.

I have had five recurrences in 16 years of being diagnosed with stage 4 and I am still here despite being written off in 2004 so every case is different.Currently I have gone for the longest period between recurrences, four years.I am disabled from all the surgery and effects of chemo but still here into retirement which I didn't expect so each case is individual.I worry far less now about check ups as time has gone by.Good luck.Vivxx.

I would NOT think of a recurrence as a death sentence! As so many beautiful Teal warriors on this forum can attest. They are still here after multiple recurrences. No Dr. can know precisely which treatment will work for any one individual. They will start with the tried and true frontline and go from there. With so many different options available to us to keep this disease at bay, all there is to think is HOPE!

By no means. It does happen and it all depends upon many factors on how it will affect your overall health. Don't think of death and scare yourself.
