Hello all brave soldiers, I have just got back from single dose chemo, gemcitabena, and my chest feels so tight and I'm finding it a struggle to draw breath, I felt like this after my last one, and it passed by next day (although I still get very out of breath doing the simplest things), has anyone else had this? hugs to all, xxx

I'd ring your chemo ward to ask advice asap. Struggling to draw breath sounds serious. I haven't had your particular drug so I don't know the side effects, but I'm sure your oncologist and nursing team would want you to be able to breathe.

Hi,

I haven't had gem but would worry about breathlessness. Maybe ring and ask for advice.

Sorry I can't be of more help,

Hope you feeling better soon.

Mandy, xx

Glad your breathing is improving but I would still call the chemo nurse or CNS to ask for advise.

Before chemo, although never had this drug, the chemo nurse always asked whether I had shortness of breath or tight chest or chest pain so worth just making sure.

Hello,

Having Gemzar (+ oxaliplatin), and it’s really hard on my red cells and my plaquets. Having anemia, which makes me breathless when climbing the stairs for instance. Had an iron transfusion 2 weeks ago, then a blood transfusion last Friday, which improved things a little. Maybe you’re having anemia too...

I used react after Gem but once I got the steroids included it helped a bit, I got the shakes but would come out of it. I would ring your Oncology unit to be on the safe side. It is scary so if it recurs go to a and e to be sure.

Even if it's getting better, I think you should call your chemo people for advice. And ensure it's on your records for your next dose. Although it may just be a normal side effect of the drug, tight chest pains can prove to be serious.

All the best! Helen

Hi, I'm on Gem/Carbo and it definitely says in my notes to contact them for Andy chest pain or shortness of breath x I found walking upstairs a bit breathless but no pain and my dose got lowered slightly. It does tend to lower my platelets and I inject daily to keep them up, but iv just had 4th differed for a week as all blood to low xx hope this helps xx
