Morning all... Does anyone here use diet to help combat cancer and reoccurances? A friend mentioned an alkaline diet would be good? Any real life experiences out there? Just need to start thinking hard about what i eat and drink... I no longer drink any alcohol but am almost certainly high on sugar a lot of the time... ☺️

Hi Katie

Like you I am wondering about changes to my diet..I am a bit of a sceptic though. I do wonder about sugar and don't drink excessively but I would hate to give it up completely. I have always been veggie and generally eat quite healthily...but still got OC!

Hi since diagnosis I have read a book called foods that fight cancer . I have followed advice ( no recipes just explanation in book ) . After first chemo my CA-125 dropped by 1000 and I increased my HB levels . Feel better than I have in years . I include a glass of red wine 5 times a week too . Just nuts veg protein fruit . No  strange diets . It's called a clean diet . I.e. No processed foods . Very easy to do . Have read glucose feeds cancer so I do try to limit sugars. Hope this helps

I stopped drinking alcohol in October.  Don't miss it at all.  Elderflower Presse is my tipple of choice these days..

Hi kATIE 60,  I am not 100 percent sure about diet but some people have changed theirs.  For me, I juice a green juice every morning with green apples, celery, cucumber ginger carrots and watercress spinach and rocket.  I add kale from time to time or kiwis.  I have tried Wheatgrass but found it very crampy.  I do try and eat sensibly as in brown bread, oatie biscuits or brown scones but I also like a bit of chocolate to snack on as well as mixed nuts.

Hi - I do lots of things: cut down on dairy, xylitol instead of sugar, upped my intake of fruit and vegetables (organic as far as possible), more fish and chicken (organic) and less red meat, lots of pulses etc. But I am no saint and do leave my rules at home if we go out to eat (without going completely mad and eating my way through the entire menu!) and of course life is too short not to enjoy the odd real ice cream as opposed to the passable but somewhat watery sugar and dairy free one I make at home using almond milk instead of cows milk. Life is too short not to have a treat or two. I also take some supplements - high strength Vitamin D, Curcumin, Fish Oil and Resveratrol although I stop all of these when on chemo on my oncologist's advice in case of interactions with the chemo drug.

However for the ultimate in healthy eating I'd recommend you have a look at the last 2 or 3 posts from Leeds2015 - I don't think anyone could top her efforts to eat herself healthy and she's a mine of information on how to use nutrition and diet to give your system the boost it needs. You could also check out Chris Woolam's book The Rainbow Diet which is full of information on how to combat cancer through diet.

Hello Katie

I have been making my diet more alkaline, but it is quite hard to do properly as you really need to become Vegan and eat only plant based foods. A lot of fruit is acid, the only alkaline ones being bananas, melon, papaya, figs and persimmons.  All vegetables are good except tomatoes.  Keep animal based proteins to a minimum and duck eggs are less acid than hens eggs.  You need to cut out dairy products too, especially milk, cream and cheese.   Eat lots of beans and pulses to add protein, also nuts and seeds.  Deliciously Ella's books are good.  Be careful of drinks as wine and most soft drinks are acidic as are fruit teas,  drink plenty of filtered water and herbal teas.   Also home made green juices and smoothies daily.  Green tea is also excellent and good for fighting cancer.  I hope this helps,  don't try and do it all at once and start by having chicken ands fish instead of red and processed eats.  Good luck. I started reading this book called anti cancer. It. Is by a doctor who had died from brain cancer and how he from many years of research says we can change our bodies to fight cancer from eating better foods. Check out the book. It is absolutely really good!!!

Hello

And thanks to Beth for the compliments, although not sure if anything makes a difference, but I don't think it can do any harm and is helping me to build up my immune system etc before the inevibility of more treatment. I want to hold off on this for as long as possible, so now back from Iceland and reevaluating my regime. Lots of good tips above.

I am currently looking into RCGG testing, this may help identify amongst other things the type of supplements likely to have the best effect. I will post more info once testing is done. This may help to save me lots of money on supplements that may not be of any use. 

I am also looking into further herbal remedies that may help with stopping Acetis from building up too quickly, again will post further info.

I am starting on hyperbaric oxygen therapy, this is meant to help along with bio-resonance, I have met a lovely lady who has held back for a year after being told she needed further treatment by adopting these amongst other measures. I also have a book called essential oils and cancer which I am going to try, but use Frankinsense and cedar wood oils applied to the tumour area, feet and back massage (if you know of any Mark Webber/Dan Snow tall, dark, handsome single masseurs who can oblige).

I was given a coffee enema kit as a present by the above friend, so am going to bite the bullet and give it a try. Let's hope I don't get asked how I like my coffee, medium roast up the bum please! 

I am also going to start on Frankinsense water, although the resin has arrived from China, so not risking it and have found a reputable source. 

I have also sourced some cannabis oil of a 1:1 thc/cbd ratio which is meant to be the best ratio for fighting cancer.

My kefir cultures have arrived, so going to get busy starting culturing some kefir milk. This is great for gut bacteria, as I raw organic milk which I have started using and fermenting vegetables. 

On the diet front, have a look at some of my previous posts, but I try to avoid sugar and refined carbs, avoiding dairy unless it is raw and unpasteurised and only minimum quantities in my diet, keep it low gi, have upped my protein and fat as struggle to maintain weight, I juice daily, lots of ginger in juices and meals.  I find Myfitness pal a great help to monitor calories, sugar,fat, carbs and nutrients.

I feel a post about to be written, writing it down helps me focus on what I am doing. 

I am loving all the new experimenting with making fermented foods and new recipes etc.  On that note I am off to the health food shop to pick up my crate of  ginger kombucha ( a lovely Korean fermented drink).

Hope you have as much fun with any dietary changes as I am having.

Hi Katie,

I follow a very similar regime to Leeds 2015, but don't currently do hyperbaric oxygen, or C oil, but may consider if my oc becomes active again. I was advised by my nutritionist against doing coffee enemas as she feels it may destroy some good bacteria, though I do know lots of people who do them and rave about their effects! I also take chicken broth regularly- I boil the bones from my organic chicken for at least 12 hours ( in slow cooker) and then use in soups, stews etc , good for restoring your gut to good health, which is essential.   I do think diet is a personal thing and what works for one doesn't necessarily wok for another, but cutting down on sugar, processed foods and eating organic has got to be good   for everyone,  all the best
