hello can I ask advice?

Hello

I have been having problems with "IBS" for a number of years but lately I have had a really bad flare up. I have read so many stories about women being advised they have IBS and yet it turns out they have ovarian cancer that I am finding things a little scary.

I had five trans vaginal scan back in October/November as I was pregnant and being closely monitored by my early pregnancy team. They said I had a cyst that relates to me ovulating. Would they be able to see on this scan if I had a tumor even though they were not looking for one? They said one of my ovaries was slightly more swollen at the time but did'nt seem to worry, but that with my IBS flare up has me worried. I suffer very badly from anxiety so I am having a bit of a bad time at the moment. I sadly miscarried and had to have an operation early in December

Hi There. I had a trans vaginal scan and the OC was discovered immediately. If you are very worried you should see your GP and talk through your concerns. I am sorry you are having a tough time and I hope that going to your GP will help. x Trish

Welcome to our site. You'll find lots of support on here. Sorry to hear of your recent problems.

It won't help your anxiety with worrying about the possibility of ovarian cancer. It is very wise to rule out that possibility or get it investigated. Have a look at the Ovacome website ovacome.org.uk click on the BEAT symptom tracker or 'BEAT ovarian cancer with Ovacome' Scroll down and you'll find lots of info on symptoms, then if you scroll down further there is a sheet that you can record your symptoms over a couple of weeks, so that, if you decide to go to the GP, you'll have some definitive evidence of what's going on. There are also lots of fact sheets on there, under the ' resources' heading, so you can find out more.

All the best with your fact finding. If you need more advice and info after you've read everything, there's a helpline number on there too.

Love Wendy xx

Thanks for your help - I am

Hoping the fact that I've had several scans of my ovaries will rule out the chance but I'm anxious non the less

I was very sad to hear of your loss. I don't have any answers I'm afraid, but if you're really worried, you could call Ovacome who have a nurse led phone line. Love to you T xx

Thank you

If you have been diagnosed with IBS when you were young.. then the chances are it is IBS.. because IBS shouldn't be diagnosed when people are older (of course I don't know your age) also ovarian cysts are very common and are usually benign... if you have already been investigated then you probably have nothing to worry about...just make sure they are keeping an eye on you ...(but I am not a doctor neither do I have access to your medical records) it seems to me they are already closely monitoring you....I can only endorse what the others have said and see your GP if you are worried.. it is best to be safe than sorry.. and don't feel you are wasting their time..( because you are not)

Best wishes love x G x

Thank you I'm 41 nearly 42 and was told by GP 13 years ago I had IBS but this flare up has lasted a month :(

Dear Sammc,

It seems as if you were diagnosed with IBS when you were young (but I am not sure how young they mean) I do think however given what you have been through that a long flare up could be because of this... I don't think it would do any harm though to see about this and mention your concerns... I am so sorry that you are having such a hard time..

Love x G x

It is very common for young women to have cysts on their ovaries. These come and go. You are obviously concerned so my advice would be to get the symptom checker from the ovacome website and check if you have any of the symptoms and if you do go to your GP and ask her to carry out a CA125 blood test. IBS can be triggered by anxiety so that may explain your bad flare up. I'm sorry you miscarried. You have to give yourself time to grieve for the loss of your baby. I wish you well. Ann xo
