I have had a blood test for cancer that came back clear. I read on one website that hysteroscopy should not be used if you have uterine cancer so I am worried about having a hysteroscopy to detect it. Is what I have read true?

I'm afraid I don't know. But Dr Google is not a substitute for the doctor treating you. I would ask your doctor what her/his answer is to the question about uterine cancer. Depending on which blood test you have had, the fact that that test suggested you do not have cancer is simply an indication. You need a biopsy of cells that can be viewed by a pathologist to make sure exactly why your uterine wall is thickened, and also why your ovary is enlarged and cystic. I am sorry if this is not what you want to hear, but that is based on my experience - I had multiple fibroids, which were benign, a normal endometrium, but an enlarged left ovary with a complex cyst. After surgery, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The surgery was triggered by a high CA125 blood test result - but the diagnosis was made after surgery. Hope this is of some help. Vicky xxx

Hi there

My understanding is that a hysteroscopy and possibly a biopsy are used to investigate suspected uterine cancer. I also seem to remember that a d and c is not a good idea but again I am not a doctor.

I am so sorry that you have this worry , please ask your doctor these very important questions....but it is of course fine to ask us too.

I so hope that it will be a false alarm for you.

Take care and keep in touch with us.

Love and welcoming hugs

Hi Charlie12, Thanks for your kind words. I am going to talk to my doc but cant get in to see her for a few days so I am sitting here stressing. The reports of studies I have read online are conflicting. Some reports say that if you already have endometrial cancer the pressure exerted in dilating the uterus can spread cancer cells. Others say this is not the case. Apparently they can get tissue samples with a dilation and curettage which does not carry such a risk so I do not know why they cant do that first. At least the blood tests for cancer have come back clear and I have no bleeding pain discharge abnormal bowel and urine problems etc. That gives me some hope.xxx

I have uterine cancer. I had abnormal bleeding with a clear pap. They did a.biopsy and it came back positive. I was in surgery in ten days for.a.radical.hysterectomy. pathology came.back stage III. The cancer was 52% thru uterine wall and in two of 17.nodes. I did chemo taxol/carbo..could only.complete four.of.six.treatments as extreme nerve damage ruined me. I then did radiation and just last week moved to survival mode. It has been a crazy emotional and sick six months. I am.here to.tell them story. I wish you well. Please follow up with your doctor..finding and treating cancer sooner rather than later is always best. Wish you clear sailing with no cancer.

Just read your post from 5 years ago. I have slight thickening of uterine wall and a complex cyst on my right ovary. Waiting on blood test results. What did you do and what was your outcome. I hope it went well.

Welcome to the site. Just a little tip for the future: check when a post was written (top right corner of the box). This one was 5 years ago and Rosey hasn’t been active on here since.

Yes I mentioned that it was 5 years old in my post but I didn’t know whether she was still active or not.
