I had my first gynaecology appointment last week, and I feel like I am no further forward! On my last scan I was found to have a 6cm cyst, and a tumour which had more solid parts in it. I had a CA125 test done which came back normal at 9. My gynaecologist said he is reluctant to operate on me due to my age, and he thinks the cyst might be because of hormonal changes with me only being 20. He has said he will prescribe some stronger painkillers (although I am not sure what I can have considering I am already on naproxen and codeine) and I will get another scan in January, and if the cyst and tumour is still there then he will operate.
But I can't put up with the pain for another 4 months, I'm sure some people think I am exaggerating, but I have had to have my shifts at work cut down as I cannot stand up or sit down for long periods of time, I seem to be constantly taking painkillers and I have a constant dull ache in my hips, legs and stomach that doesn't seem to ease even with painkillers. I get I sharp pains in the bottom of my stomach which make me double over in pain.
I really don't know what to do,I feel like now I have seen the gynaecologist and they have told me to wait, I cannot go back to the doctors.
Has anyone got any advice, or has been in a similar situation?

I am sorry that you are having such a hard time, I think you should go back to your GP, It is afterall your life, and you shouldn't be expected to put up with all this worry and pain. Thinking off you and sending best wishes love x G
Gwyn is so right, please go back to your GP, ask for a second opinion. Failing that camp out in A&E. Hope you get this resolved. Please keep us posted. Take care. Fiona.

The posts above are very good advice. I would add the suggestion that you ask your GP or gynaecologist to get you a PET/CT asap. This will either rule out or confirm your suspicions. Hopefully, if surgery is necessary, it will be simply to remove that disobedient ovary, so your fertility will hopefully not be affected.
Hi Rebecki93, So sorry to hear you are in so much pain, a CT scan would certainly clarify things. A CA125 test can be an indicator but not 100% reliable, throughout the last three years mine has never been risen above 60. Taking painkillers is not a cure and you are clearly not able to function properly like this, time to get yourself back to GP.
I am so sorry to read this. I would only add that you should trust your instincts, it is your body after all. Mine have rarely let me down and I am thankful that because of them, I returned to medics again and again before receiving the right diagnosis. I am doing fine now! Do let us know how you go on x
Can I too urge you to go back to your doctor and tell him /or her how much pain you are in right now .You cannot wait untill the new year to get your self sorted out ..keep pushing untill you get what you need and thats another appt at the hospital and another scan .....
I'm with the others on this. I'd go back to tell my GP that you're still in pain and explain just how bad this is. I'd also be asking about a second opinion - but that's just me 2 1/2 years down the line of living with a chronic disease. I take the view that if I don't make a stand nobody else will on my behalf. It just can't be right for a young woman to have this much pain.

Hi there, I certainly agree with the others that no one should have to endure this level of pain especially when there is no concrete diagnosis.I would also suggest going back to your GP to ask for a second opinion and possible MRI of pelvis which may give a bit more information. My GP did intervene with the specialist to no avail so she did suggest I go directly to A&E if I felt at any time that I could not tolerate the pain.It is a tough call for you being so young to undergo surgery but I do think a second opinion would give you some reassurance(even if it is as an A&E patient.Wishing you all the best.
I have to agree with what everyone else is saying. You have every right to go back to your GP, you shouldn't be made to feel like you can't just because your specialist has decided what they are doing is best for you because of your age. Whilst thats important, sometimes its good to get a second opinion - especially if you are in constant pain. When I began to have bad stomach pain I went to my out of hours doctor as it was late in the evening and he told me I had ibs (even though I knew I didn't) and to stop worrying and go home. He did make me feel quite silly for bothering him and I almost didn't go to my normal doctor the next day, but I knew something was wrong, and stuck to my guns - my normal Gp took one look and sent me straight to hospital. You could either ask for a second opinion or for your GP to contact your specialist for a more informative scan like the other ladies on here have already mentioned. I hope everything gets sorted for you and at the very least they listen to you and try to ease your mind and and help with the pain. Siobhan xxx
Thank you all for your quick and helpful replies. Given your advice, I booked an appointment with my GP, and I had this yesterday. I think he could see I was close to tears and therefore seemed to take me a lot more seriously! He has told me he is going to get in touch with my gynaecologis to see if he can scan me any sooner, to hopefully get an operation done at some point before Christmas... So fingers crossed things will start and get better!
