Has anyone heard of this new drug for OC with BRCA gene? Just approved by FDA and getting ready to start!

Yes, it was approved 12/16 for 2 rounds of chemo instead of 3. I'm in Arizona and waiting for it to come. Getting free month of drugs. I almost fell over with the co-pay this morning. $5,970.00 for 15 days of pills. Trying to get aid for it. Crazy and have no idea if it will even work. Are you on it?

I take linparza, (olaparib) $ 75000 , yes 3 zeros..Lol, per quarter...If no insurance, 800 deductible per month on Medicare BUT because income less than 100k I got my doctor to get ASTRAZENECA to send it for FREE....Check into the programs..Good luck!! And yes so far it's working..

$5,970 is cheap compared to yours. I have made some calls and I'm working on it. I called the company direct and hoping everything works out. Everything always works out, just have to have faith!

Yes I'm on it. I am on a clinical trial therefore access to the drugs is through the drug company and there is no cost to me. I've been on it from April 2016 and it was tough at the start for around 8 weeks then it settled down and I've had no problems. Liver and kidney function can go up and down a bit. It's kept me off chemo for a year so I'm delighted. I've had a longer disease free period after my recurrence than I did after first diagnosis and Im sure it's because I'm on this drug so well pleased.

Thank you for your response. Where did you go for this trail. I live in Arizona. During the first eight weeks what were the side effects? My first 2 rounds weren't a walk in the park. So, you are still on it and I'm assuming that you have the BRCA 1 gene? I think a months supply is coming at no cost! I'm going to call hospital tomorrow to see if there is a trail that I can go on. Have a nice evening

I'm being treated at Christies hospital in the UK although it's Clovis an American drug company that's running the trial.

I felt very sick, constipated and so tired. My mouth was also very sore but it almost overnight settled down and has been fine most of the time. The fatigue can be difficult but I've learnt to rest a few days every week and not put myself under pressure fighting against it. Yes I'm brca 1. I met a geneticist recently and he told me that they are going to be running a trial using this parp inhibitor for women pre surgery with brca as a preventative option. This sounds so positive as my daughter who's 24 is also brca 1. Hopefully a trial is an option for you and takes the cost out of it.

Thank you for all the information. My daughter was neg and my son was positive. Wendy 47 had a complete hysterectomy last year ( prevention) and Eric was test. Both just fine. I'm going to call local cancer hospital this morning to see about trial for Rubraca. I have been told it's a very good drug for our cancer. Thanks again and have a nice day. Carole
