Hi all, I hope I find you all well and 'managing'. As I was reading over some post its one of the words I hear most often, especially when new comers to situation are seeking advice and voices of the experienced.
I am managaing these days and beside taking a few hours of sleep packed into a very busy day ( full time job and 2 smallies, and an artist) I do manage mostly, sometime I don't and I just chalk it down to the illness and the treatment.
Anyways , I'm going to the OvaCare Patient Day next Sat 11th in Cork City and I'm exhibiting some of my current art work which is a new body of work I'm working on since my illness. It deals with ideas like image, my body image, illness, loss, dark thoughts, patients words, doctors words, my words, my family's words etc. As well as images, photos, sewing , print and sculpture. At the patient day in Cork Im speaking about my journey and how art has been my method of expressing my journey. I hope to get you the participants to be doing a tiny bit of sewing onto some paper and fabric that I have prepared to express your words, your feeling your emotions with your journey in text or images and co exhibit beside my work. This will be guided and I will do a demo an give more of a context. This is of course is if you want to and there is no pressure to participate- your sewing skills will not be judged !!!! I'm fact nothing will- you could sew something and keep it private if you wanted or post it to me in time.
What do you think ? would you feel that its something you would like to see happening and observer or participate in ???
If you happen to be in Limerick City this month I'm exhibiting some of my prints and sculpture pieces in an exhibition called 'The Plane Invasion' in the Gallery of Limerick College of Art and Design in Clare Street. Opening night is Wed 8th April at 6:00 with a wine reception and the exhibition opens to the public on the 9th of April -22nd April Mon- Fri- 10-5.
It would be lovely to see you there or if you get a chance to pop in, there are a lot of interesting pieces of art on display from artists all over the country.

Right up my street Sinead unfortunately in Lancashire. I am very arty, crafty etc. But I would need to put in a great deal of thought so not this time I am afraid. Wish you lots of success though.

HI Sinead looking forward to seeing your work and hearing you speak about your experiences, I think I am also a speaker but not as expressive as you will be. Now about the needle work, I have to warn you, I was always the girl in school by the way turning the heel in the second sock and telling my teacher, the first sock was done and of course at home!!!!! It was always the same sock I turned for the year maybe a second year but I got away with it, I just hadnt the talent for knitting and sewing. Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday Joan

Hi Joan, please don't worry about your sewing skills, I can help you if you want to participate - you never know you might surprise yourself !!

hi Maureen, thanks for the mail and encouragement - would you like to bring some of your needlework skills so we can all look at them ??? I will have the needles threaded with embroidery thread ( I'm using darning/embroidery needles).
We will be sewing onto small cut paper, hessian, fabric or card so it might be a bit different than what your used to.
Hi Sinead --- it is usually cross-stitch or tapestry I do, and most of the pieces have been given as presents at this stage, as cushions or wall hangings etc. Even Had to borrow 1piece back for an exhibition recently Have only 1 piece at home & will bring it to show you though.
we should all have lots of fun doing it though -- & I would imagine it will be a piece you will be proud to exhibit.
Had a cataract removed this week - so, eyes should be clear enough by Sat#Regards, Maureen
Definitely not a sewing queen, I will make an effort though. I was hopeless in knitting sewing etc always, I am just being honest. I think my teachers in primary school just despaired of me and also in secondary school. I know one of my teachers is still alive and well and living on the southside of Cork, I am not too sure about the other lady, they both got married and one of them always knitted her own jumpers, and I remember they were good.

Sinead, it was lovely to put a face to a name and your session with all the fabrics, threads, papers, needles etc was wonderful. The different mediums of producing art is great and I am sure that you got some good pieces.
Thought your work was inspirational and I will try to get to LImerick to view your exhibition.
Know you were tired and had to leave, so I hope you will be OK and with renewed energy tomorrow.
