I’m seriously struggling right now all I want to do is cry and run away 😢 my 6 month old won’t let me put her down during the day it’s so draining all she wants is to be held she won’t even be put down for a nap she’ll only sleep on me or with me on the bed then come the evening I lose my patience and shout at her for crying / not settling which makes me feels like the worse mum ever please tell me this is normal??

Hi 1st time mum. Im really glad you reached out. Have you spoke to a health visitor or a doctor it maybe something as simple as teething. Is she breastfed or formula? Maybe she is still hungry! have you started weaning yet? (but would be worth getting some professional assistance maybe a HV on here can help.) . It is completely normal to feel that way as it can be very draining and upsetting. But keep trying to put her down as she will learn. (Even for 2 minute at a time and then try longer each time and try to be insight for her to see you and then with the time see how she does if your out of sight) Have you tried white noise? What support do you have? What routine do you have at bed time to make it different from day? (Have you tried a bath or find a song she likes)

Sorry a few questions but will give me an insight to what's happening. Stay strong it will get easier.

Hope to speak soon

Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time.

Babypigeon has made some really useful suggestions, but please call one of us on 0300 300 0123 and we can chat through it all to see if they is anything else we can suggest to make the situation feel a bit more manageable.

We are here until 6pm tonight and tomorrow morning 9-1.

Hope to speak soon.

I have had a Velcro baby too, I would highly recommend a sling. Then you have two hands free to get things done. Try getting out for short buggy walks too so that you both get some fresh air and baby is in the buggy safe and you don’t feel they’re attached to you. This is normal behaviour and it will pass.

Re losing your patience, completely understandable, it is literally suffocating sometimes, it may be worth seeking support from a HV if your mood is being affected. But to manage babies need, a sling will give them what they need and then you are free to get on with what you need to do.

Hi 1st time mum I had a Velcro baby too, yes it’s exhausting my frustration used to come out in tears, sounds like you had some good advice. if it’s anything like my experience I found that I really had to follow baby’s lead the more you let them sleep on you the more they slept the more settled they are and eventually the more they will start to go down. On me she would sleep upto 2 hours, put down we never go more than 20 min. Even now at 2 she rarely naps through the day. It’s exhausting yes but it will get easier as you find for rhythm together.
