What qualifies a breastfeeding champion? Is this an IBCLC?

Hi J_B3

Thank you for your question.

Our breastfeeding champions are Healthy Child Programme practitioners who have had an enhanced theoretical and practical training in infant feeding and are all UNICEF qualified. They are overseen directly by the infant feeding lead and run our bespoke NHS one to one infant feeding clinics across Norfolk.

I hope that helps to answer your question :)

Where will this person be on the 22nd, or is it an online thing?

Hi CRC4!

Our breastfeeding champions will be answering questions on the forum (online) on the 22nd between 10am and 11am. If you have a question feel free to post it before then and they will answer it during the Q&A. If you need breastfeeding advice sooner, call 0300 300 0123 and you will be able to speak to a clinician for advice and see what support can be offered to you.

I hope this helps :)

My 3 week old baby cries becuse she's hungry but when I put her on my breast to feed she falls asleep 3 minutes later. I try and nudge her to keep her awake but it's continuous. If I take her off when she's asleep she then wakes up again complaining she's hungry, it's a vicious cycle! Any advice?

Hi Deaddaisychains, She is doing what she needs to do to stimulate the milk supply and its good if you can go with it, is she gaining weight well and having loose stools, and heavy wet nappies. Her tummy is tiny and she may get what she needs in this time. Skin to skin is always helpful, and switching sides, this will stimulate the let down on the other side to wake her. Have you tried stimulating her when she gets sleepy by tickling her feet, etc or changing her nappy. Also we have supporters who can visit at home or come for a face to face consultation with a feeding champion, bookable by calling Just One Number 03003000123

The Healthy Child Program can help me with some issues too. If UNICEF qualified allows you to advise on formula manufacturers, can you ask questions in that context? I know that I will not have milk and I also don’t know how to feed the baby properly, there have already been two Caesarean sessions. A friend said that there is a anyorganics.com/holle-cow-f... holle pre which is suitable for children from the very beginning of life. I like its composition, but I would like to know if your specialists can be competent in this matter. I want to clarify the information regarding this nuance, although it does not apply to breastfeeding.
