My liking for different foods have changed..

Since my op 14 months ago I now find that my liking for foods have changed.

e.g chocolate which I used to eat loads of, now its not as much

fish doesnt seem to excite me but tuna I like

snacking between meals, at first it was nuts/raising etc now its bread sticks (savory) or

cereal bars.

a treat to Subway I enjoy but eating a full 6" sub doesnt do me any good (dumping).

at times breakfast is fun! as I have to rotate on different days weetabix, sugar puffs and

porridge,

Can`t grumble though, life has to go on, each day we learn new things.

What agrees, what doesnt, learning to adjust to all the other odd things that other dont

understand.

Regars to all, take each day as it comes.

I also found my tastes changed - prior to opp I did not like curries but found I had a liking for mild ones afterwards.

Also my likings for foods seem to change week by week but can eat most things now

The advice I was given by a woman who went round the ward having had the opp herself was even if you like a particular food don't stock up with it because next day you may not fancy it and I found that to be very true

Best wishes

Hi Mick

Same here, I was a vegetarian for 25 years and the first thing I wanted after the op was a beef casserole. I now eat chicken and fish but red meat just does not agree with me. Breakfast is a banana as that is all my digestion can tolerate.

And I agree with what the lady said about not stock piling food, I did it, and my poor husband alway had to eat it as I would go off it very quickly.

But we are all still here and for that I can raise a glass of red, but only one ;-)

Best wishes

I find that I enjoy strong tasting things like Bovril, Marmite on toast , stews, ect, however sweet things are a no go now, I enjoy curries, and I have porridge with a little salt most mornings. black coffee, and green tea.

Cheers folks,

I was begining to think I was imaging it, totally agree with not stocking up.....have several packets of nuts/dried fruit etc left but still not got the fad for them again.

I must admit my one big failing is Bramley Apple Cream turnovers.....perhaps its because of the apple and cream....

On pet hates is.........commercials on TV for Diets...or food products for diets. I want to put on weight not loose it.

The taste buds really seem to dry out and get changed by a mixture of chemotherapy, surgery and going a long time without 'normal' food passing through the mouth. I think in some ways our digestion systems become like babies again - we have to gradually try new foods, develop tastes again and try to avoid the colic! But often the taste buds do return to more or less what they were (otherwise I would not have liked wine again) but there does not seem to be much rhyme or reason to it.
