Dad had his cancer diagnosed 2 years ago, and had his surgery in April 2010. Very recently he has not been so well and we have written about this before on this site. This last week he had a CT scan which shows he has a pleural effusion, we saw the oncologist on Wednesday and he was admitted to hospital for a chest drain to be inserted, which they did on Friday, over the weekend 5.5 litres of fluid has been drained off his left lung. It is considered that this is very likely to be malignant, and we are all devastated by this news. I will of course keep you updated of future events with regard to how Dad is doing.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all their support with advice and comments in the past, it has all been very much appreciated.

Best wishes to you all

Dear Karen,

so sorry to hear your news. Do hope your worst fears aren't realised. Your Dad sounds a real fighter. Hope Stan is as comfortable as can be and that you are able to find strength from somewhere in such worrying circumstances. Can only send a very large ( ) to you all and I'm sure you and Stan will be in lots of our thoughts tonight.

Dear Karen

I share all Charlies sentiments. I wish you and Dad all the very best and you will be in my thoughts and prayers

Dear Karen

Our very best wishes to Stan, you and your family. Whatever the future, he ought to feel a lot more comfortable without all that fluid there.

Dear Karen

So sad to hear of Stan's situation but with all that fluid now removed and most importantly a loving family to support him he has every chance to improve.

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I would update you. The fluid from Dads lungs were tested and they didn't find any cancerous cells so we are pleased about that. In the end they drained off 6.5 litres!! However he has a long way to go if he is going to get back on his feet. He is very weak and has almost no appetite and is feeling constantly nauseated :-(

We are just hoping that we can enjoy Christmas day, and that Dad will be able to eat a small lunch and join in some of the festivities.

Here's hoping anyway!!

Best wishes to you all, and Merry Christmas and a very Happy 2012

Hi there Karen and Stan

sounds like you are doing the best you can so keep fighting and don't give up. I'm just witing for a scan and although I know it has come back I don't know where and how much so I'm pleased to hear that you are fighting it again. I hope you were able to enjoy some of the festivities!!

Cheers

Hi everyone,

It has been a difficult Christmas, Dad has felt constantly nauseous, and as a result he has not eaten at all.

However, today we have met a wonderful lady from St Richards Hospice in Worcester, and she has taken control of the situation, she has made arrangements for Dads medication to be changed around to help control the nausea, which I am certain will impact in a positive way.

She has also got everyone talking about our feelings, and everyone as been very honest and that has helped so much.

Thanks again for all your kind words x
