GERD ATTACK AND EFFECTIVE REMEDY/ REACTION OF GERD MEDICINE WITH PROSTRATE MEDICINE

My GERD has triggered when I took cough Rhinathiol (carbocisteine). Now I'm feeling my throat is blocked, headache and upper back pain. My pharmasist has given me Pantocid 40 and Gavisvon yet there is no relief. What can I do? I'm also taking prostrate medicines avodart and solifen, do they have problem with Gerd or Gerd medicines?

Three medicine you mentioned do not seem to have direct interaction with each other.

However carbocisteine is not to be taken if you have ulcer in stomach or guts as this medicine is used to make the mucus less sticky and easier to cough. Obviously if you are prone to reflux damage your trigger is natural. Collateral damage. Try natural steaming with vicks etc to work away the thick mucus. Stop the medicine it will stop hurting the oesophagus. What you feel is muscle contractions due to acid damage in oesophagus tissues.

Avodart is a steroid but no counter indications.

Solifenancin is a antispasmodic medicine and this is causing your constipation. You need to drink plenty water. Eat fibre rich diet and also require a laxative to come out of the constipation now. If this has lasted more than 3 days then contact pharmacy immediately and ask which laxative suits you. Also the body needs exercise/movement for bowels to work efficiently.

In general if you take multiple medicines this will cause constipation due to various factors such as side effect, physical immobility due to underlying causes and offcourse diet change etc.

Suggest reading the patient leaflets provided with your prescriptions to prevent further issues as well heeding to advise offered within them.

Assuming you do not have skin rashes. Swelling, bleeding, vomiting etc due to the allergic reactions. If you have any of those contact GP immediately if in the UK 🇬🇧 or go to Accident and Emergency straight away. (Not acid reflux induced vomit).

Also try to take the medicines halfway through the meals rather than at the end of the meals. Between meals drink plenty water but not during the meal itself except for tablets.

Usual GERD lifestyle advice applies for managing the episodes.
