Swelling with red colour, sensitive to touch, any lump mass, fluid collection, high temperature etc will be cause of concern and being looked into it immediately..

Having said that slight disfigurement of the area immediately at the area below diaphragm is noticed for IL patients. Also note that the stomach is restructured and pulled up in chest so you will.notice some difference in anatomy if you see and feel.

My stomach feels like a inverted bloated mushroom at the diaphragm and bulge on one side is more than other. Purely due to anastomosis.

If you have high temperature as well red rash and lumpy feel please call GO or GI team straight away.

Thanks for the info, no fever or redness I guess I just keep an eye on it for now

Good to know no other issues at the area same time.

Having said that as goes for all forum inputs from a totally stranger from non medical profession disclaimer, requt you to please contact your regular or emergency services if the concerns are there.

Even if the current chinese virus situation is there, NHS expects everyone having any concerns to reach to their services without hesitation. For all reading this.

:) me thinking I need to put a disclaimer as foot note in my posts.

I’m going to get it checked out as another in the group suggested it may be an incision hernia. Also any suggestions you would make I understand that they would only be suggestions and a medical opinion would be necessary.

Thanks again

Hi Agl19,

My IL was in Feb 2018.

Sorry to know the recurrence of your cancer in the stomach. Hope you are in good care.good luck with your treatment.

On the incision hernia issue, would you mind elaborating the diagnostics you had been through?

I had had a barium swallow on what I was suspecting diaphragmatic hernia but it got ruled out.

My stomach was exactly like yours.i had my surgery at memorial Sloan Kettering inNewYork. The doctors there explained to me that in the ivor Lewis surgery, so much of your insides r moved around and taken out ,that there is slot of room , so the muscles in your stomach grow out because u r no longer packed tight . I had no pain or discomfort , just a big belly .they did cat scan n saw hernia , which is just muscle growing because of extra room.Once they repaired hernia , stomach went back to normal . This problem is very very common with ivor Lewis surgery

Hi, I sent picture and video to my surgeon, he said it didn’t look like a hernia, he said I did something to the abdominus rectus muscle and that it would heal on its own and is nothing to worry about.

I would get it checked out. I had emergency surgery for a large disphragmatic hernia 2yr 2months after Ivor Lewis. I had no warning signs except perhaps a slight increase in all the usual problems

Thanks Lynda,

I’ve emailed some pictures to my surgeon, once he has a look he’ll make a decision on what to do next, I would imagine a CT scan.

Hi Lynda,

Would you care to share what diagnostics was carried out for DH confirmation by your tram?

Well this probably isn't much help. It all happened very fast. I hadn't been great on and off for a few days but no problems that weren't part of my post cancer life. On Saturday morning I took my grand daughter swimming. Some time after lunch I had what I thought was an IBS attack but it then rapidly got worse tii my husband called 999. The paramedics rushed me to hospital and doped me up with morphine. I believe I had a Ct scan at Burton which showed my guts in my chest. Somewhere in the middle of the night I was transferred to Nottingham for emergency surgery. It's all a bit of a blur really and until the point where the pain became unbearable I had no idea that there was a new problem.

Well, I think I am back to where I was before it. Hubby says they reinforced the diaphragm during repairs. I dread to think what with but then I am 71, have survived that emergency as well as the cancer so I just dont think about it. Hope you get sorted
