Oeosophageal stent at GOJ -serious pain and inability to eat

Hi everyone

After having battled my tumour back with 6 rounds of FLOT last year it unfortunately came back with a bit of a vengeance with some peritoneal metastases which have caused fecal impaction and bilateral effusions.

Delays in getting theses symptoms treated resulted in me losing even more weight to the point that I'm not currently strong enough to handle any more chemo.

Hospital elected to give me a wire stent and I'm now nearly 72 hours after and still in complete agony and unable eat or drink. Then pressure in my chest is unbearable now on top of acute acid reflux and my heart rate hasn't come down lower than 110 and my BP ranging from 177-199/ 87-100.

I managed half a bottle of ensure a couple of time but then I became extremely nauseous (despite any slickness meds) so currently finding it easier to be nil by mouth. Am on IV fluids only.

Got to spend another weekend in hospital before I can see the GI department again; but they think the stent was a success and is in the right place.

I'm am besides myself - so, so weak and wracked in pain. Anyone had similar and things got better? This is what I'm being advised.

Thank you 🙏

Lu

Hi, my husband went through this until it settled down and he was able to eat soft foods, whilst it settled he found ice lollies & ice cream & anything very cold to be all he could tolerate, yoghurt also put in the freezer for 10 minutes, also fortified milk put in a lolly Mould is a good idea.

I am so sorry to hear of your experiences- hopefully the stent will help and you can start to eat soon, and build your strength for future treatment

Yes I had similar thing happen.everything I thought was fine. Got bowel obstruction in June and had surgery to take care of.always had cramping n stomach pain since I or Lewis surgery.Went for regular cat scan in November and wad told I have metastize in stomach . The tumors in stomach blocked my bowels n I could not pass stool or eat. They put pedge in stomach to drain fecal matter n I lost 35 pounds in 2 months. Was told chemo was last chance, but I was very weak and doctors were not sure it would work. After 3 chemos, tumors shrunk and I started moving bowels. Once that happen, I started eating and I gained all weight back. I’m still on chemo to shrink tumors and outcome I’d looking up for the present, but don’t know what future has to bring . Hang in there n try to get stronger

Yes, I have had a similar experience. I had a stent placed pre-surgery and that immediately allowed me to regain weight. At that time I had no bowel issues. Post-surgery, everything went fine for 6 mo., then bam I got a bowel obstruction that put me back in the hospital twice in 30 days. I couldn't eat; my whole digestive system was locked up. Finally, the doctor prescribed lactulose to move things along. Once your things get moving, I believe you will be able to eat. I have since added Reglan to help also. Drinking a lot of water is very helpful. My digestion is tricky still and requires my full attention, but I am slowly gaining weight again. Last July a PET scan showed cancer had metastasized and I was classified stage IV. Since December I have been on a trial of tas-102 in combination with irinotecan chemo. My last CT scan showed my tumors have shrunk an average of 20%. Praise God! Lastly, I want to say I have been trusting the Lord and many friends have held me up in prayer. God is in all of this and has promised to be with us through all our trials. Amen! I pray for you Sportiva in Jesus' name. Much love
