Help! am I the only one?

Hi guys so I'm going in for an endoscopy on 11th Feb I've always suffered with my tummy and had gall stones removed quite young 24, I was put on lansoprazole after and have been on them ever since I'm 42 now I must admit that I've suffered terrible with my tummy since, constant heartburn foods making me ill and stuff but over the last few months I've started feeling like something was moving around in left hand side of my tummy and sometimes feels like it moves into my chest right where my heart is and causes a pressure like feeling which can get really scary, I can not lie flat in bed because I constantly have to clear my throat it feels like I'm choking on liquid I sometimes spend all night clearing my throat and end up with sore throat and neck the next day and now the acid that comes up into my chest like a golf ball it's so uncomfortable and I have constant acid in my throat it burns when I eat or drink anything I'm so fed up with all I'm drinking gaviscon from the bottle, I can't wait to have the endoscopy done to see what's going on from what I can tell on line research it's a hiatal hernia or gord or even both, just reaching out to see if anyone else having or has had same issues, sending big hugs to everyone that needs 1 xxx

I feel you with constantly drinking gaviscon from the bottle! Although i have the symptoms of a hiatal hernia, when I had my endoscopy nothing showed up.

I hope that something shows up for your endoscopy so you can get more resolution than i have.

I wish you the best of luck xx

i’m having a colonoscopy and gastroscopy in a week just to check again, then 24 hour pH testing to make sure it’s actually reflux!

i hope it is something that you are able to fix xx

It sound like a hiatal hernia and GERD to me but your endoscopy should confirm this. It’s possible for your hh to be a sliding one like mine that does not always appear on every endoscopy. If large and causing damage and discomfort and its effects not controlled by medications such as PPIs then it may be repaired. Your doctor will advise. I do hope your symptoms are relieved.

I am fortunate in that I don't have any symptoms apart from a very occasional ache under my left breast which doesn't last too long. However I am more concerned as to whether I am actually continuing to reflux silently without symptoms, which is possible I've heard, which might be causing damage to my esophagus. I've had a motility and ph test done recently to check this out, so we will see what comes out of that! Have you seen your GP about your symptoms as you may need PPIs meds (if you are not already on them) to reduce the acid in your stomach if this acid is splashing up through your hernia and causing damage? Anyway if you can have an endoscopy that will give you a lot of information on what's going on.

Ahh ok, I get an awful pressure under my left breast feels like someone has blown a balloon up it's so uncomfortable so I feel your pain love, I've been on lansoprazole for years but they don't work anymore I'm supposed to take 1 30mg tablet a day but I take 2 and they still don't work, so hopefully that will give me some answers xx

You may need to try a different PPI. Although in theory they’re similar some suit different people better. Ask your GP. I’m on Omeprazole 40mg per day. These meds should be taken 30 mins before meals. Also try Gaviscon Advance not just ordinary Gaviscon. Best wishes.

Hi Clairgavin77 Sorry to here about your acid reflux problem, Myself and my daughter were both having really bad reflux my daughter more so we're both taking ppi my daughter had to sleep sitting up using at least 5 pillows it was severe reflux. We were both diagnosed after having camera down as having osophigitis grade 2 my daughter was put on waiting list for surgery fundoplication I told Dr I would sort it with in approx 4 to 6 weeks cured had camera down to make sure it wasn't being masked by what we were taking . specialist couldn't believe it no inflammation my daughter was was took off waiting list for surgery. We are both off ppi and no more reflux and I kid you not my daughter was on 4 r 5 ppi a night and still had to sleep with 5 pillows coughing all night.Am not saying this will work for everyone but osophigitis leads to one thing cheers finas

Thank you 1960finas that sounds really interesting and though it's not nice others suffering it's nice to no I'm not the only one, so from your message I can't quite tell if you mean the fundoplication cured the reflux or if it was stopping taking the ppis ? Xx

I had a lengthy wait for NHS surgery for hiatus hernia . I was put on Lansoprazole but so many scare stories of people being on them too long and ending up with stomach ulcers . My surgeon dismissed this but I said I could put him in touch with many . I had 2 endoscopes , a barium meal and a 24 hr monitor which involved tubes being thread though my nostrils . They almost tortured me before surgery which was done as daycare case although the op was 4 hours I was sent home early afternoon .

My main cause was being overweight .Middle age spread I suppose . I took this as a wake up call as post surgery you are on a restricted liquid diet so you drop pounds on that even being in bed for a few days afterwards . I also got on a PARIS rehab scheme at my local gym which was very supportive . I have lost 18kg and feel better all over for it .

You have to keep going to your GP . I did it a lot from the psychological side which they can't argue with that I couldn't fuction properly as I was so tierd as I couldn't sleep .

PPI'S are the second most prescribed medication in history behind the statin although that's another story. Wether it's your diet or your drinking habits the acid in your stomach has went from acidic pH of 1to2 and is now alkaline pH of 4/5/or 6 so that means the food is not getting digested properly which means the undigested food starts to give off gas that is when acid reflux start's.The lower eosophigus sphinker has to relax so as to protect the stomach it is doing it's job.If the pH in your stomach was right and the sphinker relaxed it would be game over. PPI'S do in most cases help with the symptoms but don't fix the problem you will always have the problem. I have no problems with acid reflux my daughter was going through hell and was on list to have op which is very invasive and life changing she has know need for op and is off all medications, all's good And also my friend suffers from acid reflux been off ppi's for 3 weeks takes the odd tums but it's going well.Come on do all yourselves a favour follow me and help yourself cheers fina's

Hi my daughter had terrible acid reflux and was taking at least 5 amoprizole a day,she also had stage2 oesophagitis had to sit up in bed because acid would come up into her lungs she would be coughing all night and I mean all night. Was on waiting list to have operation .I told Dr I would get this sorted and I have She is not on any medication sleeps with only one pillow no acid reflux and oesophagitis and took off list for nissense fundoplication Drs are amazed had endoscopy all clear no inflimation , staying on ppi's is dangerous and u will never get better.I think we all know what this can turn into. Cheers 1960finas

Hi it looks like I'm repeating myself,it's just I'm resending posts from couple of years ago. if u go to my posts you will see how I cured the osophigitis and I don't think I'm being flippant in saying cured it's been over 3years acid reflux free cheers finas

My cure for acid reflux and oesophagitis. You start with apple cider vinegar unfiltered raw with the mother , ginger turmeric cayenne pepper freshly squeezed lemon and limes, orange and and or grapefruit do enough to make about a pint, and add a half pint of water keep in fridge.use a little glass put one/two table spoons of the vinegar then add ginger, tumeric, and cayenne pepper. All 3 just a tip of a teaspoon cayenne pepper is really hot, then add the juice about one inch in the glass take this twice a day before meals it goes against the grain taking a drink that's so acidic but that's why it works it takes about 2weeks to kick in and it's not very nice to drink ,you may get a bit of upset belly for a couple days while you are doing this just take a a antacid not pp inhibitors please let me know how u get on. PS keep off ppi's it's been on news there really bad for cheers fina's
