I have consulted my GP and spoken with my Pharmacist whom have informed me that generic versions of Zantac are not a risk I would seek such clarification from your medical team.

It's a recall wordwide. I used to take it before sleeping and it worked well during the night, but when I got the information about recall I dropped it. I tried gaviscon instead without much success, developed symtoms of inflammation. By now I doubled PPI's (40 mg in the morning and in the evening), wait and see.

Doubling PPI's was not of much use, ranitidine worked better for me during the night. I found out that famotidine is similiar to ranitidine, both are H2 histamin receptor antagonists. I asked my GP for a prescription, she was not familiar with famotidine but gave it to me anyway. In my case it works as did ranitidine.
