Greetings,

Sorry to know ill health if your mother. Hope she is stable now and getting all the attention needed.

Post IL anastomosis (joint) leaks are not uncommon and it depends upon a range of variables, primarily surgeons skills and patients intrinsic self healing ability. Each patient is unique in responding to anatomical alterations. It was rather unfortunate that she had to endure post IL complications. Having said that as you said she had done well for a year almost since her discharge from the hospital.

Silent heart attacks are not unheard of. IL surgery is a major give and take transaction for the patient in various aspects like health, physical strength, anatomy post IL, psychological etc but differing for each patient.

While we focus on the immediate histirical major trauma and in this case IL surgery and complications, holistic view of the patients health should also consider any underlying (known or unknown) conditions prior to IL combined with the age and lifestyle.

Hope there may be much better and relevant advice for you on this forum.

Best wishes for your mother.

Regards
