Hi,

I'm on Pantoprazole since June and have been experiencing abdominal cramps and weakness in my legs, Upper section.

I wanted to know whether anybody has experienced similar symptoms since being on PPIs

I was only willing to take these short term . I was on Lanzoprazole and this inhibits B12. No wonder I felt awful. I opted for surgery and lost the 20kg afterwards which was one of the causes of my hiatus hernia

I have no knowledge of Pantoprazole BUT, 9 months after chemo and the I. L. op, I experienced weakness exactly as you described, it was as if I had aged 30 years in 3 months, I was unable to dress myself properly, our GP diagnosed Polymyalgia and prescribed a course of steroids, 3 hrs after the first dose I was 80% better and now 3 weeks on almost all the weakness has gone,

I do not know, but reading the info that came with the steroids there was a warning that these symptoms can occur if the steroids are stopped, sometimes weeks or months after taking them, as I had a short course of steroids each chemo I wonder if this was the cause, water under the bridge now, just pleased that I am back to normal.

Are you still doing well on the steroids? What steroid did they put you on?

I am taking Prednisolone, I started on 4 x 5mg tablets for 2 weeks, then down to 3 x 5mg for 2 weeks and then down to 2 x 5mg which I am still on, just visited the GP and she seemed to think I was weaned down too quickly but at the moment she is happy if I take 2 one day and 3 the next if I wish. I seem to be OK on the 2/day and am trying to exercise to regain the muscle lost pre I.L. and post I.L. BUT I am now back to my old self, the tired weak old man of a few weeks ago has gone and I'm back enjoying life.

I've been on pantoprazole for more than five years and have not experienced any problems.

Hi Spikey

Could I ask what strength of Pantoprazole do you take daily as I am thinking of changing my current PPI
