It is now 2 1/2 years since my operation and I have started having problems eating food, at first I thought I was getting back into bad habits and not chewing properly but I am not so sure so I have called my speacialist nurse and thy are booking me in for an endoscopy with possible stretch. I have also felt naseous after eating something I thought had long gone. Has anyone else had this and can you let me know what a stretch may involve. Slightly concerned.

The stretch is not too bad. They just do an Endoscopy. When in place they blow up a balloon. Quite simple and only takes a few minutes. Please get sedated during this procedure. I did it once with just the throat spray. Never again. I’ve had 3 stretches. Don’t worry x

Thank you, yes will get sedated had s couple of endoscopy’s prior to treatment & on first they forgot numbing spray, that was not good, they always try to talk me into no sedation but I can choke brushing my teeth so would be no good without sedation.

Thanks, hoping it’s just scar tissue!

Hi,

I am six and a half years post op and had several stretches in the early days. They do try to convince you not to have anaesthetic but I always insisted on it. I still feel sick after the first time I eat every day but have just come to accept that this is my life now. I don’t think it is anything to be concerned about, it’s just not pleasant.

Best Wishes, James.

Thank you

Got a great fiend driving me on Monday so I can be sedated. Alternative was hospital transport (doubtful due to distance) or drive myself. So glad she can drive me, one less thing to worry about, just got to find & catch the mouse that my cat just bought in at 4am!

James are you nauseated every day?

Yes, pretty much. It’s only really after my first intake of food. After that it gets better and better the more I eat through the day. My GP once told me it is probably due to my new plumbing taking time to settle back into place after laying in bed all night.

Best Wishes, James.

First what type of surgery did you have? I have had my esophagus stretch several times back in the 90’s. In the US they knock you out for endoscopy and the stretch just involves inflating a little balloon on the scope when the doctor goes down the esophagus. I never had any pain associated with the stretching. Back in the 90’s they didn’t always knock me out so I have been awake for the endoscopies. So there isn’t any side effects from the esophageal stretching but with the surgery you had it could change your circumstances in getting the stretching. I just had achalasia surgery a 1 1/2wks ago. Have you had an esophageal mobility test done. It is a rare disease and hard to diagnosis. My surgeon 👨🏼‍⚕️said it is finding the right doctor who orders the right test. I hope I was able to help calm some of your concerns. Take care. 😊💕🦋🌻🌷

Thank you,

I had total gatrectomyv& a lot of my oesophogus removed called an Ivor Lewis’ I think the blockage is near the area of the join so think it is scar tissue, it feels like food is sticking on something not that I am having trouble swallowing but then I do not know what that feels like.

Got endoscopy booked for Monday & friend is taking me so I can be sedated

Wow if you don’t mind me asking. Why did you have to have the gatrectomy? I have a lot of stomach problems myself over the last 27yrs. Right now it didn’t agree with dinner. In 98 I had 3 gastric ulcers which had bile in my stomach and stomach acid in my esophagus. The surgeon said both spinkter muscles at both ends of my stomach wasn’t working. The surgeon was describing the surgery that I needed was taking out the stomach and making a new one out of part of my intestines. He wanted me to see a gastroenterologist for a second opinion. Anyway to make a long story short I saw doctor after doctor and it wasn’t until we moved to FL and the second gastroenterologist who saw the problem and got me on the right medication that allowed me to eat again. Between 98 to 00 I was sick as a dog. 🤢🤮last summer I went for more testing and achalasia was added to the never ending diagnosis of stomach issues.

Well I hope all goes well for you on Monday. I have been awake and knocked out for the ....🤔well for both endoscopies and colonoscopyies. It goes smoother for both the doctor and patient to be sedated. Good luck on your endoscopy on Monday. 😊💕

I had difficulty eating had endoscopy & they found a tumour, that was February 2016 confirmed cancer had 3 x 3wjs EOX Chemo, then waited & had operation August 8th 2016 removed 50 lymph nodes no sign of cancerous cells, shortly after I had Chemo combined with radiotherapy for 5 wks, that was hard as the effects of radiotherapy continue after treatment, ended 21st Nov but by Dec I could not eat sent back to hospital twice.

Thankfully 1 year later scan showed no sign of reoccurrence but appendix was about to burst! Luckily scan saw it as I had no symptoms.

Here I am 3 years since diagnosis & trying to gain weight, I went from 90+ kg to 57 give or take a few kilos,

Eat little bit often & have to have vitamin b12 injections every 10 wks.

Bit of a journey & hoping they find nothing sinister Monday so fingers crossed

You have been through the ringer. My ex had appendicitis’s early in our marriage. He went to the doctor while I was working home health. I was at one of my patient’s homes when they got a call and it was the doctor’s office saying I need to get him to the hospital within the next 2hrs. You were fortunate that The scan picked it up. Well I am dozing😴off. Well I guess ivf..........sorry I fell asleep. I’m not sure 🤔 why I get so sleepy so early I’m out by 10:00pm. I woke up from the sleeping on the couch at midnight. Now I’m in bed. I’m sorry if my writings is incoherent.i hope you slept well. 😊🦋💕🌻🌷💜
