I’ve been taking nexium 20mg for 14 years for hiatus hernia.First 7 or 8 absolutely trouble free then lost its effectiveness. I really suffered. Tried double dose and no help. Switched to H2 blockers 30 mg at night and got some relief. My doc sent me for endoscopy which was ok but medic who did it suggested trying nexium again which may work after a break. I did this and he was right- worked fine again. Point is I think some develop a tolerance to meds and your body needs a change. I had to do same again last year with similar result. Give it a try and I hope it works for you. All the best.

Hi Artiebarton

I am 3years 3 months post Ivor-Lewis, I suffered from reflux and was prescribed 2 x 150mg Ranitidine at bedtime and 40 mg Omeprazole at 6 pm before my evening meal. This worked well until about 4 months ago when I started having reflux around midday. During my last appointment with the surgeon, he suggested that I split the 40mg into 2 x 20 mg doses, taken at 12 pm and 6 pm. This has worked beautifully. It might be worthwhile giving Ranitidine a try. Ranitidine is sold under the trade name Zantac. Could be worth trying. Best of luck.

The first thing you need to do, is to determine if you have acid reflux or bile reflux. Ppis do not affect bile, on the contrary, they reduce the amount of acid you produce, which means you don't have enough acid to neutralise the alkali bile. If the bile back flushes into the stomach, it will cause damage to stomach itself. It will then reflux up to the oesophagial duct and do more damage.. So, firstly find out what your reflux is made of. Good luck
