Hi guys !!

This may sound like a weird one but my hubby Tony ... having had his I L OP 15 months ago loves Roller coaster rides and is now wondering due to the nature of his ‘ new plumbing ‘ and the fact that his stomach is up near his chest ! Will he still be able to loop the loop !!!???

Anyone any experience !!?????

I cannot speak from experience but science says that the laws of momentum and inertia mean that as the body is rotated the stomach contents will travel towards the feet in a forwards somersault but towards the head in a backwards somersault. I think the roller coaster makes you do backwards somersaults unless you are facing backwards in the beginning. As it all happens so quickly it may not matter but be prepared for a throatful of bile and or acid, take your Bisodol!

My husband had his IL 4 and a half years ago. I think what you have to remember is that it isn't just the plumbing that is different but the process during the op to get them in a different place and the effects on different areas. Not that my husband would admit to it but he did think he could do anything including DIY etc. Unfortunately two weeks ago he had to have open surgery for a haitus hernia repair and looking back he did over do it. My own personal feeling is don't take the risk because this year has been pretty traumatic for us. I will add that we are all different.

Hmm. Mine used to do aerobatics before his op 7 years ago. Not since!

Im 8 years on and I have done the odd roller coaster with no bad effects Im not really into them so nothing huge But I went sky diving and My surgeon said I could go Diving,

I would take my PPIs Have a bottle of gaviscon to hand and give it a go, we are all different.

Good Luck

Hi This month I was at Thorpe Park with my kids for the fright night experience, my full oesophagectomy surgery was in Feb 2017 and I was still able to do the loop the loop and most of the rides just fine- even with my stomach in my chest and had no ill side effects from it - if you were ill before on them it's likely you will be ill again on them! I say life is for living especially after what we've all been through :) x

15 months may be a bit soon. I went scuba diving again after 3 years and have since been down the slides at water parks with my grandchildren. But neither of these involve being turned upside down! He should be fine provided that he feels up to it at the time and does it on an empty stomach. Suggest he starts with a gentle one and builds up gradually.
