Neck Pain

I had my operation 12 years ago and apart from the usual problems we all have life is still good. However for a few years I have experienced neck pain so I asked my Doc for an Xray and it has come back saying I have moderate Osteoarthritis in the neck. This at times can be quite painful. Apart from certain pain and relaxant medications I was told it just has to be managed and I will use Physio and exercise and medications as a last resort.

But I often think could it because of the operation where the nerves are cut in the Shoulder and also the raised sleeping position for the last 12 years.

Just wondered if any bod else has experienced the same problem in the shoulders or neck

Thanking you

Phil

Hi Phil for a while I have had a neck pain its like I have slept wrong, Mine op was 10years ago so haven't seen anyone, its rather strange when someone says something that you have. it seems to stop you worrying. If mine continues I shall see a doctor. Thanks for the heads-up.

The ringing in your ears might be tintinittus that can result fro Chemo whichnuccurs when the chemo crosses the cochlear boundery. There is a treatment that you can get from some high street audiologists I get mine from Boots, this involves listening to something called ' pink noise' for half an hour a day which 'white noise' with your affected frequencies knocked out which encourages the auditory nerve to adjust to the missing frequencies. The ringing gradually disappears and hearing improves over time.

Hi.

I had trans hiatual oesphagectomy in May 2012 In the last couple of years i,ve suffered neck and right shoulder pain.Arthritis was pleasant in the shoulder prior to the op. But it took a back seat with the other issue being more to the forefront.

I had the neck and shoulder x_rated ,and found i needed replacement shoulder joint which was done last year.I was hoping the neck pain was a side effect of the shoulder problem, but it is only slightly easier since the op.

The neck x_ray did find lowering of disc space and ossification.but I've noticed that if I do my neck exercise in front o mirror that my tendons don't look symmetrical .I wonder if this is due too scar tissue as there was an insicion in my neck as part of the oesphagectomy

I do not the neck issues most of the time but still get it occasionally, last time was yesterday. I never got x-rays to diagnose it but is very painful when it happens.

I too had my IL almost 12 years ago and like you I started to experience neck pain about three years ago, which I put down to always sleeping on my right side and with my head slightly elevated. I too had an X-ray and then saw a consultant, who basically said that he would be very surprised if a man of my age (I was 62 at the time) did not have arthritis in his neck. Again like you, I decided to manage it through physio and exercise and, so far, it has worked. I still get stiffness, but little pain.

Know that I had advanced arthritis in my neck well before my opp ( a year ago) i also have it in my lowere back. At first sleeping propped up was a problem but investing in an adjustable bed rather than using wedges etc has helped. I do get shoulder pain and pain and stiffness in both upprr arms. This has onljy been since the opp though not sure why both sides . Any way follow advice of a physio for your neck
