Hi Calboy, sorry to hear your mum's still in ICU. My husband's stent was in for 4 weeks and removed without a problem. Your mum is certainly going through the mill. I do so hope the second stent works. Thinking of you all, Kate x

Everyone is different Calboy. Perhaps your mum's leak was more than my husband's. I know these temporary stents are usually not left in long - just enough for the leak to heal. I have read about some people having permanent stents put in but - as far as I'm aware - these are usually used for palliative reasons to enable food to be taken when an operation is not possible. I must stress though, that I'm not a doctor and you need to write down a list of questions to ask the medical team. They are caring for your mum and are the best people for advice and info.

All the best, Kate

Hi Calboy, sorry to hear of the trouble your mum is going through. My hubby's IL wouldn't heal, although not with the acid issues you described. Mal had to have a Jeg tube and fed for 8 weeks as the silly join would just not heal. He had to keep having tests and Barium X-rays etc. He was completely nil by mouth - just using a sponge to moisten his lips. Everything went through the Jeg including meds, it was tricky but fairly easy to do. Good luck. xx
