Burning Sensation

I am three months post oesophagectomy. I have in the last few days had a severe sharp burning sensation behind and under my right breast. Has anyone any explanation for this or has it in fact nothing to do with the operation.

I am guessing this pain will be to do with the operation as the nerves around that area would have been damaged. However it is worth getting it checked out. I am 9 years post op now but just after the op I was getting a stabbing pain in the same area. My GP was not very helpful and said it would go away in a year! So I contacted my surgeon via my specialist nurse and he found some excess stitching had not dissolved and removed it in day surgery. That problem solved immediately. So do ask. Best wishes with the rest of your recovery. I am thankful everyday for still being here.

Thank you for your reply. I am seeing my specialist nurse on Friday so I will mention it to her.

Hi I would say it is nerve endings repairing but get advice from your specialist nurse/consultant. I get hot or cold feelings under arm when eating drinking hot/cold things, which is nerve endings sending confused messages to that part of my body according to my consultant. I am over 2years post op.

Good luck

Debbie

Thanks Kiddy. Each week there seems something new to cope with but as I read other people’s comments and replies it becomes more reassuring that this is what can be expected. All in all I feel I am doing pretty well.

My husband's left nipple used to erect unexpectedly for about a year after his op 6 years ago! Not as bad as your horrid burning sensation but may have been caused by a similar nerve disturbance. Good luck, I hope your medics sort out the problem.

Just had nerve block of the intercostal nerve by my pain management Dr. for stabbing pain in chest. The pain radiated through shoulder and under right arm.

Feeling relief already

I will see if the burning persists and if so will enquire if anything can be done to alleviate this. Thank you for your message.
