Prezole group of PPI medicine are used to produce less acid for patients suffering from GERD. Understanding here is that your GP has prescribed you the treatment.

Is that Helicobacter Pylori teat came out positive, This one is said to cause nausea aches etc. I never had this infection when I had my sphincter in place.

If I were you I would compare the swallowing pre and post bacteria treatment. If endoscopy didn't reveal any anomaly within oesophagus on the pretext of examination of swallowing difficulty, then consultant must have followed some pathway to next steps he or she has any concerns.

Hi there

Have you had a barium swallow done? Definitely would recommend it. I had one done and it picked up my esophageal dysmobility. I too have problems with swallowing particularly liquids, and food sometimes get stuck in my throat. I’ve learnt know that if I eat something too hot or cold my esophagus muscles contract causing chest, shoulder and back pain. I’ve had too endoscopies done which didn’t detect any hernia or problems with stomach, but to be honest I still get pain on my side after eating so take lanzoperzole as a precaution (also recommended by GP)

Good luck to you. Hope you find an answer soon

Hi Paulazz, sorry you are having so much trouble. I couldn't work out if you have had surgery on your oesophagus / throat? If you have, it sounds really strange but you may need a speech and language therapist as it can be difficult to regain the 'swallowing' effect without their help. Also the tablets you are on (the horse pill sized ones) ask your GP if you can have Orodispersable ones. I know Lansoprozole comes in these, but we had to ask for them. Basically you put it in your mouth and it dissolves instead of having to swallow them. Hope that helps a little. Good luck.

After three years now I still have have these same problems as yourself, it actually hurts when I swallow. Some things are worse than others but bread is the hardest to deal with. I find that the mornings are usually the worst time as my throat constantly dries out, often chronically at night and in the morning its impossible to swallow anything. It strange as sometimes I will swallow a Paracetamol thinking to myself it doesn't feel like it has actually gone down? three or four minutes later I will try to clear my throat and up pops the tablet.

The expression the learned use is "Motility" I guess I could google it but after three years of constant niggles you get tired of it all.

I am very grateful to the fact that I am still here to tell the tale, but, you certainly pay the price having this op?

Good luck.

My hiatus hernia meant i experienced reflux but never pain so never went doctors .. idiot. The reflux acid burnt the bottom of my oesoph causing scarring which narrowed my oesoph resulting in swallowing diffs. Hh treated .. no more reflux but swallowing issues persist. Really not so much swallowin .. i can swallow but the food may get stuck down by the narrowin.

I had acid reflux and large hiatus hernia The hh was operated on in sep17 with a nissen360 op. I no longer have hh nor do i get reflux. However i had swallowing issues from abt sep16 and they persist today. My swallowing issues relate to a narrowing of the oesoph.. caused by scarring from acid burning at the junction of my oesoph and stomach. For example swallowing issues can be assessed thru a "mammometry" procedure (may be good for u) .. but treatment not avail to me bcos surgeons cant get tube into my stomach as too narrow at oesoph junction. Wish u well. G
