So just to keep everyone updated .... They was reducing my mums medication and she was slowly coming out of the induced coma doing really well .... Her blood tests showed good oxygen levels she was moving still on the ventilator but breathing for her self with the help from it still so they decided to remove the tube to let her breath on her own... Unfortunately she couldn't so they have put her back to sleep with the ventilator back on... She needs to go have another scan to see what the problem is... Just when you think we are getting somewhere

When you say blood levels, can you ask if the ABG blood sample is normal for carbon dioxide content? Asking because the screen measurement for CO2 does not show actual count. Please do ask the staff about how often they testing it and normalcy of it.

My thinking is her body is already being through so much and needs bit time to recover and weaning off the meds and ventilator so quickly could have waited. Again my view only. Drs know better.

Hang in there, she will be alright. Time is what needed. Beat regards

The scan come back and she still has fluid on her lungs so there gonna perform a trachesotomy so she can be woken up and will be more active then she will be able to cough more easily to try to clear the fluid from the lungs that has build up ..

Yes my wife did say about tracheostomy I forgot to write it earlier.

Believe that's step towards betterment.

Thinking of you Cal and your mum .You must be exhausted .Your mum probably not so much ? She will have a lot of medication and is probably in a bit of a cocoon .

Sending love and strength to you both .

Thank you .... She was off the ventilator yesterday for a hour so getting progress which is so good just gonna take time ... We all have been trying not to visit as much as she gets anxious when we are there trying to speak to us ... It's hard not goin as much but she just needs to rest and I think it's working ..

I know it's hard work - your situation sounds so similar to my own. When she is feeling a bit more with it, take a very large writing pad and a good sized felt tip pen and see if she is able to write a bit. my husband's co-ordination was rubbish (he couldn't focus properly) but your mum might be better.

So glad to hear that she is making a little progress.

Cal you're very thoughtful holding back on the visiting .

Can I suggest when ppl are visiting that you avoid sitting on both sides of the bed and all sit on one side .Maybe ask which is best for her .

May not be the same but after my op the scar on the side of my neck made it hard to keep looking from one side to the other .You don't realise that you slightly turn your head when speaking or listening to someone .

Of course that was just my experience and maybe your mum doesn't have a scar on the side ( I had a transhiatal op ,not Ivor Lewis ) but I guess she has the trachy .

Thinking of you all .
