Hello Alan Opal

You may not remember but back in September 2017 I posted that my wife had an endoscopy and diagnosed with hiatus hernia. She found that she could not swallow anything more than soup. Following meeting with consultant she waited for a barium swallow. From the start too the barium 3 months went by. After the swallow the result was seen by the head clinical nurse in the Upper GI and made arrangements for my wife to have another endoscopy with some urgency. The following day she had the endoscopy and it was confirmed that she had a malignant tumour in the oesophage a squarmous, this was completely missed on the first endoscopy somehow. She has since had all scans and it is operable. She is in her 80th year but has been told she is fit enough to have the op. At the moment she is having 3 cycles of chemotherapy which is standard procedure at our hospital before an Ivor Lewis. It has helped because I know all the surgeons and staff at our hospital because in 2015 I was diagnosed with exactly the same which resulted with an Ivor Lewis and I’m glad to say I am now back to normal apart from the usual with an IL. It has been said at the hospital that they have never had a husband and wife with same diagnosis in 22 years.

That is a coincidence that you would rather not have to suffer! I am sure it does help that you and your wife know the procedures - all too well! I do hope that your wife gets on well and manages without too much difficulty.

All best wishes to you both

Alan
