Vomiting

I have had another spell of vomiting, always just that yellow bile apart from yesterday when it was a strange, grey murky colour. I knew straight away this colour indicated the presence of blood, confirmed by taking a little bit to be tested at the doctors this morning. Obviously now I am convinced its a recurrance of oesophageal cancer only 10 months post op. I have been on the aspirin trial for 6 months, so obviously I am hoping that this blood has been caused by the aspirin rather than something more sinister. Has anybody had any similar experiences?

How did they treat it and I presume that was the end of the aspirin?

sometimes bleeding can be from the stomach wall because of intense vomiting. I have had this myself and it is called some sort of tearing but I cannot remember the name. Distressing, but usually clears up in a couple of days.

So it may not be as serious as you fear, but the underlying cause of vomiting has to be diagnosed.

Hope you improve soon.

Did they perform an endoscopy to make sure thats all it was or did they just wait for it to clear up?

No they did not need to. I remember now that they were Mallory-Weiss tears.

Took my little sample of vomit (nice) to the doctors who did her dip test and confirmed there was blood in it. It was a new doctor I'd never met before and I could tell by her manner that firstly she didn't understand the point of the aspirin and secondly she thought the cancer was back. Spent an angst-filled night mentally writing my will etc. Just got back from my hospital review and the surgeon said the dip test the gp does will always show positive for blood because of the microscopic amounts in vomit from the strain of vomiting. I had brought the sample to show him-I know, I'm all heart--and he said it was the colour of stomach bile and didn't have blood in it other than the microscopic amounts. I must admit I only thought the dirty grey colour indicated the presence of blood because another gp told me when my mum had been sick. Anyway, hospital not concerned. I'm a little peeved at GPS' lack of knowledge and subjecting me to a sleepless night, but end result is no need for endoscopy so they must be satisfied; and they haven't even taken me off the aspirin trial.
