Hi, My Mum is 24 days post Ivor Lewis op. She had a chest infection and had to have fluid drained from her Lung, which set her back. After eating a small amount of food she vomits it back up about 30-60 minutes later. Is this normal in the early days post op? Thanks Debs

Hi

My mum had the same surgery and from my experience with her I would say that is very normal, its a very tough surgery and it took her a while to be able to eat properly and keep it down. Has your mum been given anti sickness meds at all? Hang in there it will get better, wishing your mum all the best.

Thank you for your reply. My Mum had anti sickness whilst in hospital, but they haven’t sent her home with any. She has only just been discharged from hospital. I a going to call the GP and ask them to review her meds. Wishing your Mum all the best too.

Hi, she has only just been discharged a couple of days ago. She is having very small amounts of soft food. Milk just doesn’t seem to be agreeing with her at all. How long ago did you have your op? I will give the dietician a call. Wishing you all the best

Thank you

Debs

If it continues speak to the dietician or consultant. She needs to eat and put weight back on! Good luck and stay in touch. Haward

Thank you for your reply. I will make a few calls. We are back at the hospital next week to see the dietician and Upper GI nurse. This forum is so informative, it’s very early days, but reading lots of positives posts on here helps so much. Best wishes Debs
