There are around 200 different forms of cancer, but there is a common theme of the natural process of healthy cells being removed accelerating out of control and creating a tumour, or unhealthy growth which can spread through your body.

in the UK oesophageal cancer comprises around 70% adenocarcinoma, which is linked to reflux and tending to be near the junction with the stomach. The other cases, mostly squamous cell carcinoma tend to be nearer the throat and probably has more association with smoking and alcohol but it is not as simple as that.
