Gripe Water

Gripe Water is an Old remedy to treat Colic Problems in Babies. Is it good For babies? Or one should avoid it?

Colic is something that adults get also, for instance after the major surgery that many people visiting this forum have undergone. Some of them try gripe water and find it helpful.

I suspect that in relation to babies it has been overtaken by more modern medications. Some of these may be stronger, perhaps? It might be worth asking your pharmacist about how gripe water compares to anything else that might be sold, but the priority for parents of babies is to get them comfortable and help them to thrive without the pain they feel at times.

We used it for our children, who are now in their forties, so I personally am happily out of date with these things.

My four children had gripe water if they had colic , I'm pretty sure in the old days , as my children call it ....it had a small alcohol content . I suggested my daughter try it when my new grandson had a grippy tum around there months old. It has no alcohol content now but a mix of herbal ingredients. We found it did give some relief .now age 16 months We are finding he has an alergic reaction to some fruits and definitely tomatoes .immediate rash and grippy tummy. The grippy tummy came after being a settled baby and then not settled . As my daughter was feeding our grandson I asked what she had eaten and she said nothing new just pizza ! So I immediately suspected the tomatoes content and advised the gripe water and no more pizza ! Baby tummy settled down . But now as tomatoes are definitely a no no it did rather prove the diagnosis .

After being told that all baby raising was now very different from how it was in my day , lol , it was rather nice to have something from the dark ages that still worked ☺.
