Delia is very good too. Try carrot, butternut squash, sweet potato, even turnip, as basic ingredients. H

Asparagus - even frozen or canned - and Jerusalem artichokes make delicious soups, which can be made more calorific (and even more delicious!) by the addition of cream. When I was reduced to a soup diet I invested in a NutriBullet: its powerful motor and blades purées everything, including nuts and seeds, which opens up a wide range of possibilities. I bought a soup maker for £40 and it has been extremely useful. Only takes 20 mins. I use the boil option for a little while to soften everything first. If you can tolerate leek, it adds flavour.
