Well it is a bit since my surgery and things are starting to get better. I have had 7 dilations to breakup thescar tissue and need to go back for another. My biggest concern is that almost every day I feel sick at some point. Has anyone had this and ifvso what did you do to combat it?

I'm coming up for three years post surgery and I still occasionally feel sick after eating. I am never actually sick; I just get that nasty feeling above and across my jawline which make me think I'm going to be sick. It passes after a while but it is unpleasant. I just live with it but if anyone has a better idea I'd be happy to hear it

Hi Tom I too am 20 months post oesophagectomy and I often feel stomach ache ( not sick) after eating. I think it's dumping. I eat less and more frequently, avoid too much at breakfast which has helped. I would suggest you go back to the hospital and discuss the problem with the dietician or nurse specialist. She will check vitamin levels ( B12 can be a big issue) and should put you on the right track. Good luck.
I am 3 and a half years post op and still feel sick at times, especially after breakfast. I had been taking Metoclopramide untill recently but my GP said there had been an alert about them having some possible side effects so took me off them. It's a pity because they did help to combat the sicky feeling. I may go back to my GP though because my wife works for a different GP and she says they are still prescribing it. I have taken it ever since my op and had no side effects so it might be worth you trying it if you can get it. James.
I'm about the same, (maybe 8 dilations) 2.5 years in, I do get similar pains, and occasionally feel sick..so, it looks like we will both need to be patient and wait for ALL of the symptoms to disappear ...best of luck for your continuing recovery..Mike

I am almost 6years post op and still get that sickly feeling sometimes after eating. I find l am adapting to most of the obstacles this surgery throws up, some are just a bit harder to deal with, like feeling sick after eating. From being a morning person who thought nothing of getting up at 6.00 to walk the dogs, I have to go very slowly in the morning until everything settles down, but it does get better 😊

I had that as well and took Levomepromazine for about a year. It worked unbelievably well for me. Worth a shout.

I am from Singapore. I did the Ivor Lewis as well. I am 8 months post surgery.
I take oats every morning. Next I drink turmeric water. Grate tumeric about half a teaspoon. Add 2 drops of olive oil and a pinch black pepper and boil for about 5 to 6 mins. Then let it cool and drink. This is about less than half a glass.
When I get to office, I take fresh vegetable soup. E.g pumpkin carrot with 2 small slices of whole meal bread.
Lunch is a mixture of hummus or mixed vegetables with brown rice. If u have an Indian store nearby masala dosa is very nutritional. It also swallows easily.
I take lots of Brazilian nuts and 2 reserve packs a day. At 5pm I take a peanut butter bread snack.
Dinner is at 8 where I take soup a small bowl of rice and mixed vegs. I drink 2 glasses of barley wheat grass before my main meals. I wait about 30 mins then have my main meals.
Don't eat meat. Drink alkaline water.
All will get well. I am 42.
2 years post op, 8 dilations, and feeling sick occasionally (though not every day) Almost Identical symptoms. I take Ondansatron, which does help. Suggest you mention it to your doctor when you next visit. Hope this helps.
