My husband had his Ivor Lewis 4 months ago and has not made any progress at all. He's been complaining of a new pain for the last two months. His blood test have come back today from the doctors and are showing all is not well with his liver, he is having an ultrasound scan tomorrow. He had 14 cancerous lympnodes removed and can have post op chemo as he had two heart attacks caused by his chemo pre op. I'm worried sick and am immediately thinking the worse. Can anyone share if they have any experience about this thank you Helen.

Hi Helen. Have you tried the OPA helpline? We can find someone to talk to you? It's 01217049860

Thank you Howard. I think calling the helpline would help. See what the ultrasound shows up today. Praying its nothing serious. X

I can understand your worry, but there are all kinds of reasons why people have pain, not necessarily arising from the location where you feel it. It is a natural thing to think that the cancer is returning; nearly everyone has this fear from time to time, but there is a fair chance that it may be something else.

Four months or so after the surgery is a time when people naturally go into a bit of a dip after everything that has happened, and most people find that talking things through with a counsellor from a cancer centre like Maggie's or the equivalent is surprisingly helpful. The mental track of dealing with fears about not recovering is a very real road that everyone has to travel along, and most people appreciate a bit of help along the way.
