Gastric cancer (adenocarcenoma)

I've just been diagnosed with gastric cancer. I'm wondering if this (HealthUnlocked->Oesoph.Patients.Assoc.) is the best community discussion group for me to join, or is there a better one? I'm in the UK, 47, male. Thanks very much for your advice.

Sorry to hear your news, but the people here all understand how you're feeling. Why not stay on this site AND join another if you find one. A lot of us have had Adenocarcinoma at the junction of stomach and esophagus. Mine was 5 years ago.

I expect you're going through that stressful time of many tests. Let us know how you get on, and ask any questions you wish, we're all willing to talk about what happened.

Hi Think we can all understand how you feeling at the moment, it really comes as a bit of a shock.I'm now coming up to7 years since my op feeling fine.This site has helped me so much in lots of ways with support and makes you also realize you're not the only one with lots of little problems that we get.Good Luck keep us posted

Sorry to hear about your illness but as previously said, this site is a good place to be. When my husband was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma at the junction of the oesophagus and stomach in 2013, I used this site extensively for support and advice and there were so many people with understanding and compassion that I knew we were not alone in this battle. Stay with the on-line OPA and also find the OPA Association in your area where they have regular meetings for further help and support for you and your carers. Your specialist nurse will have details about the support group. I wish you well.

You are very welcome! It is a bit of a traumatic time, and if you are having surgery, this take time to recover from. You go through a seemingly endless succession of appointments, treatments and so on, but, with a fair wind, this eventually ends and you get your breath back. Digestion issues after surgery are not compulsory, but if you do suffer you will find advice from this site. It is also important to go through the journey and keep talking to your loved ones as there is a mental track to walk along as well, coming to terms with what is happening.

Sorry to read of your diagnosis.

A rollercoaster of emotions to be experienced during the weeks of investigations/results/treatment.

My husband had a total gastrectomy on 23/04/2015 for stomach cancer - pathology showed it to be T4N3 (36 lymph nodes removed - 18 had cancer cells within, therefore a high number). Diagnosed 19/11/2014 by endoscopy. On all his pre op investigations, no metastases were demonstrated....

He had neo adjuvant chemotherapy of ECX during Jan/Feb/March, which had the desired effect to shrink the tumour considerably.

After a rocky period when he was readmitted post surgery with a sub phrenic abscess, he is now very well.

Currently having adjuvant chemotherapy, coming to the end of cycle 1 of 3.

Like the other respondents, I've been through the surgery almost 2 years ago. I'm almost back to normal now, with just a few little niggles. You'll have ups and downs, but I'm sure you'll come out the other side with a new outlook on life. Be positive, and remember - cancer is just a word, not a sentence! Cheers, Robin.

As everyone stated above. We are all here and I have been so grateful to have stumbled upon this site now almost two years ago. I would never have anticipated the medical journey that I went through and all the others on this site. I always state when I complain that I am grateful to be 6 feet above ground verses the alternative. With that stated this is the place to be able to ask questions and ask for help! We all have gone through highs and lows! We are holding hands!

sorry to hear this diagnosis,.I hope you get the treatment you need.i am sure as others say you will get support from other members and discuss your concerns,I have had so many concerns dismissed by doctors and have had some great advice ,comfort and support from other members (and some not so).I wonder if I have this too?
