I had my op at St Thomas's and found the surgery and nursing care exemplary .

Fantastic care .

2 years on I'm very well ,eating well ,back to gardening and life in general .

Any questions ,feel free to post .

Good luck ,I found the pre op wait hard ,on a par with waiting for results .Do chat with us here .

We do wish you well. You are in a very good hospital who will take great care of you.

The very best of luck to you and everyone else facing surgery and/or chemo. As my GP put it, almost exactly a year ago to the day, "you're in for a rough year." I'm sure you'll have been told much the same, and I won't deny that it hasn't been easy, but it has been bearable.

Last year, just after my diagnosis, I ran (well, staggered, really) the Manchester 10K. This Sunday, I'll be doing it again. I was inspired by the success stories here, and I hope you'll take similar comfort from the tales other people tell on here - especially the long term survivors.

Andrew Davies assisted James Gossage with my surgery in St Thomas's last September. Both Andrew and James are truly fantastic people and 1st class surgeons. I can never thank them enough for the brilliant care that they gave me. The nursing staff at St Thomas are incredible and looked after me so well. Going home was actually very emotional and that says something for me as I normally hide that well.

Never feel you can't ask questions with Andrew. He answered everything I asked with time and empathy. I was scared but need not have been. 9 months on, I eat well and (wait for it) got my first ever hole i one at golf last week!! I am playing eighteen holes once a week - with a buggy. I love it.

I try to make the most of every single minute now. But I think of these gentlemen every day.

Good luck. Do keep coming back on here. It has helped me. Often just to know that my symptoms and twinges were the same as everybody else's. Just that in itself can remove the stress and worry.

Bruce

Back to St Thomas's yesterday (22nd July)for follow up clinic, saw my Surgeon, Cara Baker, who is very happy both with the operation and my recovery, I may need a "balloon" stretch to the lower stomach valve as I'm still suffering some regurgitation after eating. Have dropped the "Fortisip"s as they make me reach, have been given alternatives to trial. Next up is more Chemo. Also some Radiotherapy to the scaring on the carina where the tumour was "resting." Tumour was originally staged as T2 N1 M0. Histology staging is ypT3 N1 MX. 1 of 20 lymph nodes was positive
