I had a total gastroectomy 2 and a half years ago. I had 9 sessions of chemo

I would recomend the chemo after the op

I'm pleased to say that I am pretty fit . You will find it difficult to put on weight as you can't absorb the fat . I eat clotted cream, butter etc etc and don't put on weight.

I find that I can eat nearly everything but not too much sugar

A good normalised life hopefully ahead

Best wishes

Brian

Hi again 243bs . You must think I'm mad asking that question ...it's just that I know someone is having " the op " then because I'm due to have my feeding tube out ( bear with me ) then and they ( St Thomas's ) told me that they always schedule it on the same day as someone having the op .

I can't forget how scared I was before the op ( and actually what little info they gave me beforehand ) and I keep thinking about whoever it is who is due to have their operation then .

I'll PM you my email and details if your wife or you want to chat but I can't stress enough how fantastic the care was at St Thomas's ,how lovely the nurses were ,how hard they tried with the food to make appropriate size and suitable portions ,how good the surgeons were .

I had the same chemo before and then op. I feel for you remember it like yesterday.

I have just had my 7 year anniversary so that is very reassuring!!

I could tell you my experience and after but no one of us are the same.

Being positive and wanting to know everything what to expect helped me (Did not have this website then??)

Please ask me anything you want to know might help. All the best!
