OCD Awareness Week - 8th to 14th October 2012

In collaboration with other global OCD charities, OCD-UK will be hosting OCD Awareness Week this October. The date is confirmed for 8th - 14th October 2012, and we already have received confirmation from two anxiety charities here in the UK and Ireland, that they will be on board to support OCD Awareness Week 2012!

A week that is completely dedicated to raising awareness of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

In fact, almost all OCD charities and websites around the globe are supporting October's OCD Awareness Week.

If you want to get involved, please do get in touch!

OCD Awareness Week will look to raise awareness not only amongst the general public, but also with health professionals, politicians and policy makers with two key aims: to highlight the different aspects of the illness and to raise awareness about the debilitating nature of the illness and the totally devastating impact it can have on the estimated 742,000 people that are thought to be affected by this illness in the UK alone.

This year our theme is trying to change the media and celeb culture use of the term 'I'm a bit OCD', because as we all know there is no such thing as a bit of OCD, and the term often trivialises the seriousness of OCD.

By sharing information regarding OCD and highlighting the traits and symptoms of this condition is a great start on our journey to educate and raise awareness of this very often debilitating condition.

We anticipate that one of the outcomes and objectives is to ensure that children and adults, through additional awareness, are empowered to seek earlier diagnosis and treatment and improvements to their education, careers, relationships and home life - offering an overall enhanced quality of life.

We would love your ideas on what we can do for OCD Awareness Week and for everyone to get involved, even if you simply add an OCD image to your Facebook profile or Twitter profile for the week.

You could try getting leaflets and posters out to universities? I'm sure my uni would readily put these out during OCD awareness week
