I have been on Aripiprazole for 11 days and feel so restless and agitated. I have been given valium for the last 3 days to help but I still feel so restless. I can't sit still or just watch TV. Its like I have to keep moving. Can anyone help advise how long this lasts? What helps?

Aripiprazole is most often used for OCD as a supplement to an SSRI, and in low doses. I'm surprised that you've been prescribed what I assume is a high dose without an SSRI.

It's actually an antipsychotic. Has it been prescribed you for psychotic symptoms?

According to the notes it can cause restlessness, but for me, on a low dose with sertraline, it just makes me feel brighter. The good thing about aripiprazole is that it doesn't usually cause weight gain, which can be a problem with some antipsychotics.

Hi.

I have been presribed aripiprazole with paroxetine.

I was told to be on Aripiprazole 5mg for 7 days. After that I am now on 10mg for 21 days. I continue to take paroxetine 20mg as well.

According to my information 20 mg is the standard dose for paroxetine, though it can be increased to 40 mg. I'm on sertraline, 300 mg.

I've been taking aripriprazole for about four years, and started off of 2.5 mg to test how I got on with it, then increased to 5 mg which I've been on since.

The 10 mg sounds like a high dose to me, for someone with OCD rather than psychosis. Perhaps ask your psychiatrist if an increase in the paroxetine and reducing the aripiprazole might help? I'm not qualified to prescribe, but it could be worth asking.
