Anyone else suffering from depression due to ocd? How do you cope/manage? I didn’t go to work today because I couldn’t scrape myself out of bed. Just constant feelings/urges of hurting my dog. It gets me depressed and feeling hopeless. Finally was able to get up and go to the store. I’ve told my psychiatrist that maybe I should try sertraline. I didn’t want to do meds anymore because I’ve tried several and they didn’t work. I do my cbt/erp stuff and it fails to do much. Sorry for the depressing post and thanks for reading :)

I do really feel for you as have been there so many times.

It’s worth trying Sertraline as I know it does work for lots of people but not for me.

Please keep on with the CBT as has really helped me.

Good luck x

Hi Corgi. First if all do not apologise for sharing your feelings, that's why we're all here. I've had and I have depression for my OCD and ISRS have helped me so far to keep going. Now, without a job, partner, family and diagnosed with borderline glaucoma(TBC in 6 months) is being specially difficult for me. I am seeing my psicotherapist this Friday. Hope I can still have meds and I am trying to run every day and read/study stuff to keep some good habits. Be strong. We'll survive and will become stronger than ever💪

I've been on sertraline for a number of years and found it very good and helpful. I also take a low dose of 5 mg of an antipsychotic called aripiprazole, which boosts the effects of the sertraline. I'm not psychotic, but it does help with the OCD.

It might be worth your giving it a go. Medication doesn't suit everyone, but it helps many people and dampens down the worst of the OCD.

Having OCD does get you down, and I know what it's like to be depressed and exhausted. It must be so distressing to be afraid of hurting your dog, but remember that people with OCD are generally very safe to be around, because we don't want to hurt anybody!

Do persist with the CBT though I know it isn't an easy therapy to do. Perhaps tackle the depression as well with CBT. I have found the book Overcoming Depression by Paul Gilbert helpful. Depression makes you not want to do anything, but actually getting out and doing things helps to alleviate it.
