Hi everyone I'm new here.I have had chronic contamination OCD for over 20 years . I have been to Springfield 5 times as a inpatient I did improve 85percent the fourth time and have tried sertraline paroxetine, venlafaxine, citalopram and now I am taking escitalopram 30mg with pregabalin 200mg twice a day and have had a big relapse. Dr Drummond said nobody has been down there as much as me and can't go back for furher inpatint treatment but she wont hear of me trying out going to the Bethlem Royaal? I am not in the mental health system again they discharged me for the second time because I cant get out and nobody is alliwed in. Does anyone have any ideas how to help me?

I'm not sure what to suggest. I have been in Springfield, once, and I found it very helpful. But places are limited, it's quite a small place, and obviously other patients need to be given the opportunity to benefit from it.

It doesn't sound good, though that they have discharged you from the system when you obviously need help. They don't do that for heart patients or kidney patients and they shouldn't do it for brain patients either.

I think most OCD patients have relapses. I certainly have had them, and gone from functioning almost normally to being a quivering jelly, or just not able to do the things I need to. However they can be got over. It's a fluctuating condition, and it's likely you will have good patches as well.

Perhaps put into practice the techniques you learnt in Springfield. I learnt a lot there, and I still have the various papers and stuff that helped me in there. I get it out when I think I need a refresher.

I know how difficult it is to motivate yourself when your life is so hemmed in with rituals and the like. It's exhausting and everything can be a big effort. But it is possible, and you can do it. Is there a friend or relative who could help you put together a programme and support you while you do it? Small steps!

Hi Paula,

I'm very sorry you are enduring a difficult spell in your life at the moment.

I don't know enough about CCOCD to offer any direct advice. I have however been suffering from trichotillomania for 35 years and at times it has taken over my life. In the last few years I identified issues in my life that had been unresolved and supressed for a long, long time. Through talking therapies and medication, along with changes to how I had been conducting my life, things have dramatically improved.

I am here for you if you need a chat with another person regarding anything. I may not have answers for you but I do listen very well and I never judge a person regarding their issues.

We are all human beings together Paula and as such we should be willing to help anyone in anyway we can.

💜
