after 30 plus years suffering am at my worst ever- had several courses of treatments drug and CBT wise but at 47 I am at rock bottom and seriously considering euthanasia with dignitas in switzerland. has anyone any last minute advice for a seemingly treatment resistant sufferer? currently on prozac 40 mg a day and will not try other drugs as terrified of weight gain-also have anorexia? Cannot find relief from this torture?

Please don't! Call the Samaritans, or your mental health service. Most people's OCD is treatment resistant and it takes determination to overcome it. But that doesn't mean you can't overcome it enough to function and enjoy life.

I am on 300 mg of Sertraline daily, with 5 mg of Aripiprazole. I haven't put on weight with them, although I did put on two and a half stone some years ago when I was prescribed Sulpiride. So don't try Sulpiride as I understand that most people put on weight with it.

Most of us feel pretty much the way you do now and then, but things improve and we go back to enjoying things, even though we can't always do everything we'd like to.

I know how difficult it is to motivate yourself, but try putting together a set of exercises based on your experience of treatment. And also, try to get out as much as you can. Phone a friend, talk to other people, even if it's only to say hi, so you feel less isolated.

Perhaps also go to your GP and get a referral to a nutritionist who can help you with healthy eating that doesn't put on weight. To feel good you need to be nourished. Anorexia and other eating disorders are closely related to OCD but at least get your vitamins!

Thanks, and I'm only too pleased to help. I know how vile OCD makes your feel, but you won't always feel like this. Life can still be enjoyed, even with OCD, and there are a lot of pleasures out there waiting for you to experience them.

Also remember that OCD is a fluctuating condition and we all have bad spells. But they can be got over, and you will have good spells as well. I've had it since my early twenties so I know what it's like.

Try to do however much to can to occupy yourself, even if it's just for a few minutes. It can be difficult to concentrate, and even more to put in the effort, but do a chore, read a couple of pages of a book that gives you a lift, or whatever, and the more you'll feel like doing things.

My best wishes to you and I do hope you start feeling better.
