Hi tell me what's troubling you or making you feel terrible, I may be able to help or at least try to help you. It's good to talk, you've made your first step by telling someone else so well done!! Let it all out and you'll feel so much better.

Take care.

Arrr thank u everyone for responding. Didn't expect to get a response (I had put a very long message on a fb group and no one replied😢) so thank u very much 😘

I suffer really bad with OCD - have to clean everyday or get very stressed out. Everything has to be even. Have to change clothes as soon as I come in, the list goes on. But it's now starting to have an effect on my son who is 6 and I really don't want him to go through what I'm going through.

I have been back to the Drs 2 day and going back on my antidepressants 2 moro😢. Really didn't want to take them but must admit they do really help. Just got to accept that I need help to get better for my Son. I've spoken to someone from mind and they said I need 121 councilling but they are not being very quick about it. Thanks for listening. Hi Leanne

Please don't feel negative about going back on medication.  I have OCD for most of my adult life - over 20 years and have been on medication to help me manage my OCD.  If you needed medication for anything physically wrong you probably wouldn't have the same feelings about that - if you couldn't walk no-one would judge you for using a walking stick, so don't do that to yourself.  I've found for me it's a mix of medication, having had various talking therapies including cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and experience of trying these out that's let me find the best way for me to manage who I am with the OCD, and that's still a pretty fab person so i bet you are too.  I have a four year old niece who I am very close to as her mum is on her own and I too have had the same worries about her copying any of my OCD behaviours so that's natural.  Try and be as open as you can and see if your family would read something short about the condition to try and open their eyes to what your experiencing.  OCD UK will have something for that.  I'm not saying don't try to reduce the impact OCD has on your life but remember it's just part of you at the moment and is there probably because you are trying to manage other stress and anxiety.  No matter how illogical our thoughts are or our behaviours to manage our fears, they are real to us.

All the best, and remember you are not alone.

book regarding OCD, Brain Lock: Free Yourself from Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior, Jeffrey M. Schwartz

When his patients find themselves involuntarily thinking undesirable thoughts, Dr. Schwartz encourages them to recognize this as merely a symptom of their OCD. He instructs them to think, “It’s not me, it’s my OCD.” It is not their true, inner person who is thinking such thoughts. The involuntary thoughts are merely a symptom of a portion of their brain that is malfunctioning.

Hi . Yeh the counselling is a must it does take time by the time they assess you and then find the right therapy for you, yeh I no how you feel about the antidepressants but if they are helping keep taken them . Therapy and the medication work well together. Keep talking to people it really does help . Take care 😀

I'm not a sufferer but living with someone that I think might have it, what can I do to help them, it's breaking my heart 😥, but I know I have to stay strong for them.

Hi just talk to them as much as you can. Try to advise this person to seek help, they will be assessed and then they can get help, I'm a sufferer and it's awful. Hope this has helped x

I have had OCD all my life so far. in the early days of my treatment I had years of various therapies. I was even prescribed "off label" medications since the conventional ones did not help. Eventually I discovered (for myself) the possibility of experimental neurosurgery. Being a scientist it was easy for me to access peer reviewed journals and I read of a procedure called "stereotactic bilateral anterior capsulotomy". There were only two hospitals in the country (UK) that performed this but with the help of my GP I was given the opportunity. The results are variable but in my case the OCD symptoms were reduced by ( in my opinion ) at least 95% and the reactive clinical depression dissipated completely. I still have residual OCD but it is relatively easy for me to control now using the techniques I learnt before the surgery. I was treated at Cardiff University Hospital and it was the best decision I ever made. I hope this helps.

Hi I must have had this for years but as I'm getting older kids etc it's obviously got worse. I'm saying awful things to people then regret it. Mine is lining things up counting and paranoia. I hear my dog barking through the night and I wake the house up shouting shut up but he's not barking . I'm panicky jumpy too . Now on Prozac . Went to gp 2 days ago and ocd was confirmed.
