good morning all, i have a question regarding osteoarthritis in my feet. My toe joints on both feet hurt and burn and most of the time i cant flex my feet to walk. My doctor says i have perephial neuropathy in my feet but do not have diabetes. I have had nerve testing done and they say it is normal. does anyone else experience this?

my big toes are almost completely inflexible through arthritis. I support them with insoles and I take glucosamine with chondroitin along with pain killers.

I can’t help on the peripheral neuropathy side though, which I would have said is something completely different.

The website I go to most is Versus Arthritis. Much of the information there would be applicable on your side of the Atlantic

My late sister had inflexible toes like you. She lived in the States and had a joint replacement done there.

I have a bit of stiffness in a couple of toes where I can't fully bend them. The burning I get is in my legs, feet and arms and it feels so severe it frightens me, it's like I'm on fire.

I have wide spread OA according to a gp that sent me for x rays must be 20 years ago.

Later they sent me for nerve conduction in my feet as I have some feeling loss there and that came back positive. When you have more than one problem going on its hard to know whats causing what....and when the doctor doesn't seem to have time to explain it all it leaves you feeling baffled and not very important.

I also have sjogrens and lupus although SLE has been stable for 3 or 4 years. I think OA is responsible for the burn and sensation loss but I can't be sure.

from the NHS web site:

The main symptoms of peripheral neuropathy can include:

numbness and tingling in the feet or hands.

burning, stabbing or shooting pain in affected areas.

loss of balance and co-ordination.

muscle weakness, especially in the feet.

Hi Hurting2012

Have you be diagnosed with gout? To do diagnosed gout, a blood test is usually taken for uric acid.

Normal uric acid for a female is 1.5 mg/dl - 6.0 mg /dl.

Normal uric acid for a male is 2.5 mg/dl -7.0 mg/dl.
