Hi. I am new here. Can someone help? I am 56, fit and active. I have been told that I need a hip replacment and I wonder - would steroid injection work? What is the likelihood of this? How fast do hips degenerate?

Thanks

Hello & welcome to our community. For your question about steroid injection, I don't have an answer for you but maybe someone else in this community can help you. Over time, osteoarthritis can cause hips to degenerate. I see that you already a fit person, so continuing those physical activities such as walking can help relieve the pain and stress on the joints.

Hi, I’m 57 and have OA in my hip. I’ve had 2 steroid injections. Both gave me about 3 weeks without pain but no more. The expected relief was 3 to 6 months! Of course everyone is different. I was told 6 months ago that I should consider having a replacement, only for the consultant to change his mind a few weeks ago. Since then it’s got a lot worse so I’m hoping to get him to change his mind and offer me the replacement again, and as soon as possible!
