Groin pain relating to RA?

Anbody ever had groin pain related to their RA? Am 40 and had various joint ops over last 10 years. For last couple months have had severe and sudden 'nipping' pain in groin. Have only been referred for physio without rheum even seeing me! Any thoughts welcome thanks.

Yes my consultant told me that if you have arthritis in your hips it is felt in the groin first and foremost. He didn't say what type of arthritis though but I believe Osteoarthritis is more likely to affect the hips. However RA can bite anywhere so can't be ruled out either. Its your rheumatologist you need to speak to really but if you have a physio they would probably be able to work it out and help relieve the pain through exercise. Tilda x

Hi

Must admit I've not had groin pain exactly, but have had in hips and what I call pelvic area (which I spose could be groin) As Tilda says, RA can hit anywhere, so speak with your Cons. about it - I find that gentle massaging in these areas does help.

Thanks folks. This ones scary cos leg just gives way under sudden sharp pain, its not too disimilar to the shoulder pain i had before i had shoulder replacement 6 yrs ago but this slightly more inconvenient as I generally didnt fall down with shoulder! I have 12 and 3 year old boys and am panicking it will happen when I'm out with them, ive already fallen a few times. Hey ho, it's all sent to try us. And try us it does!!

I have had it on both sides and it's been confirmed as the Hips, when it's really bad I get the feeling that my skeleton is going to collapse, have been reassured by my consultant that this will not happen! I am at his next scanning clinic in May to see what is actually going on, as the medication should be helping and it's not. Previously had x-ray of the area nothing showed up and it was put down to inflammation, this has gone on too long now, hopefully will get some results, I shall ask whether or not it comes under the heading Oseteo as Tilda suggests.

Thanks. Mine doesn't feel inflammatory, more like a soft tissue being nipped or pinched. I'm guessing that's why Rheum say not much they can do. I thought they would at the very least see me and X-ray though?? Maybe Physio could order X-rays, not sure. 1st time ever in 12 yrs that I've been referred to Physio without any prior investigations. Any prob I've ever had has usually resulted in the long term in surgery. At least it's good to know that there are others here in the same boat ??

Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with a labral tear and degenerative cartilage and I need hip arthroscopy, which will prolong the need for a replacement. I'm in constant agony in the hip, outer hip and groin. Do you have any pain in your outer hip? It could also be bursitis -which is what my physio originally thought it could be before I had my MRI. I had to go back to my doc who referred my to an orthopaedic so I'm not sure if your rheumy will be able to help. They can only investigate soft tissue with an MRI, an X-ray only shows bone. Hope this has helped X

Yep thanks. I have no pain atall in outer hip, tho over last 2 yrs I've woken in the morn and twice not been able to move hip due to pain on outer thigh, diagnosed as a bursa that had, well, burst I guess! Am actually thinking I may need to go A n E over weekend, which I absolutely hate doing, but I've had RA long enough now to know this isn't something that will wait 4 weeks for a Physio to just tweak and sort out. Point of interest aside, I was diagnosed 8 months after I had my eldest son who's 12 now. Symptoms came on with 2 weeks post labour but my GP refferal to Rheum got 'lost along the way' so I wasn't seen by specialists until one morning when my son was screaming in his cot and I couldn't move off the bed to get to him. How glad was I to see the paramedics lol. Unfortunately by that stage lots of joint damage had been done. But you know what? When I'm having a really bad day, lotsa pain, no money, kids driving me mental, I think there is someone somewhere in more pain than me and it does actually buck me up a bit. I know it sounds corny, and it's not easy but that's usually the way I keep myself from just giving in completely ??.

Just realised a winking emoticon appears on here as two questions marks! How weird! I don't deliberately keep ending with a question lol

I was having severe stabbing pain and then the feeling like my leg was going to give out. My Ra Dr. sent me for xrays and there are bone spurs. He told me that I could have them ground down but more than likely they would grow back due to Ra. More pain meds and now muscle relaxers. I feel like a pill disposal. Hope yours gets better, hardly have pain from them anymore.

Not able to see other replies for some reason.

I have bunions, hammertoe, and recently trigger finger in both of my middle fingers. I also have severe, unilateral, testicle pain. My mother had RA. Is it hereditary? Could my testicular pain be related?

Know this has been sometime ago but post this in case someone else may wonder. Yes RA is hereditary. So sorry.

Ah, replies visible now. Will not be happy if I have had 8 surgeries and then find out it's referred pain from arthritis!

I am going through this now! I have had pain for years now and got to point I can't stand pain any longer and meds don't work! Finally saw Orthopedic surgeon and he sent me for blood work and will be going for MRI. It will still be about a month or so for MRI so I am going crazy in pain!!! My pain is in groin, thigh, and butt cheek area. Sorry to say I'm glad I'm not the only one going crazy in pain.

Understand post was year ago but reading through just wanted see if ever figured out cause of your ailment? It sounded much like sciatica, am curious if in fact played any part in your pain? Have had severe stabbing pain groin/hip (right side), past 10 months. Due to prolonged delay in diagnosis (still waiting). Now radiating to right side back across groin and just recently down right leg into knee cap. (Pain been sent from hell I think!) Have owned chronic pain past 21 years due to r.a, fibro. and osteo. plus few bulging discs but this is an entirely different kind of hurt, times can barely walk due to stabbing, searing pain. Really hope each one has found relief and doing better. Certainly hope you finally found peace.
