Ask the chemist when you go in and tell them what you are on and they will advise you.

Check with the pharmacist in the chemist, they're really good when it comes to med's advice.

If you're on MTX and have a cough you should have it checked out by your GP if it lasts for more than a day or so. It's most likely nothing to worry about, but persistent dry coughs probably need stronger treatment than over the counter cold remedies. Px

Any cough when you are on mtx needs taking seriously. I recently mentioned in passing to my GP that I had had a bit of a cough for a while. Next thing I know - mtx stopped, sent for xray, followed bt CT scan, appointments with chest consultant and lung function tests. Turns out it seems to be caused by a hiatus hernia I didn't even know I had. I'm back on mtx now (after a 9 week break) but still have to see my rheumy in January for a meds review.

Please follow Sue Bs advice if dry cough./ shortness of breath is present as there is a serious but rare side effect that can occur with methotrexate.

Ordinary non specific cough with out phelgm simple linctus is a safe option .

phelgm coughs need expectorants eg benylin chesty cough.. both items recommended are safe with methotrexate., but as stated please report cough to rhuem team/ gp asap to get it checked.

"The official advice is that patients on methotrexate mentioning shortness of breath should be advised to stop their methotrexate and seek immediate medical attention.. source of advice is focal point learning programme book 1 sept 2011 fp113/1 provided by centre of pharmacy post graduate education.
