Does a lower dose of MTX mean less hair loss.

I've been on MTX for about four and a half years, most of this time on 15mg.It was increased to 17.5 and then 20mg for about a year.I have been on Cimzia for a few months now and asked to reduce my MTX to 10mg.This was agreed and have just started to reduce.I was told to continue the MTX as the anti tnf drugs work better with it.

The hair loss wasn't really apparent until I added Cimzia to the mix.I;m really confused now as the Cimzia works well for me at the moment.Does anyone only have Cimzia without the MTX.Am hoping reducing the MTX will help.

Hi Wiliby.Suppose I'm just asking if reducing the dose of methotrexate will slow down the hair loss.I'm working on the idea that if it's used for chemo it can lead to total hair loss so the lower the dose the less chance of hair thinning and hair loss.

I do have my hair tinted and I am beginning to wonder if it has been over processed.Haven't noticed any tiny white bobbles.

hello, I am about to post a blog on this, but it is a good sign that there is no bobbles :) it does make sense that you should have less chance and maybe my blog will make sense!

If your hair been over processed then that won't help the breakage, don't mean to preach but if you go to a hairdressers they are many products available now that causes mimimal damage, PM me if you want further advice on hair colour.... :)

It's odd that you only started hair loss when started Cimzia. But anyway, as I understand it most of the side effects are releated to the dose so higher the dose the more they can affect you (unless of course you are unlucky and have a more extreme reaction when even a little bit can set you off - but that's very rare).

Is you hair actually falling out, or just breaking off? If it's breaking off then maybe could just be a result of being to dry & fragile. My hair's always worse in winter. Px

It is my understanding that all the Biologics are designed to be used with Methotrexate. So Cimzia by itself may not do as much as far as preventing joint damage. Thining hair is one side effect of most, if not, all of them.

I get good results with Volumizing Shampoo and Volumizing Mousse or styling gel. Without it my hair would be really flat and wimpy!

Hope that helps. Loret

In theory reducing the methotrexate dose could reduce the amount of hair loss.
