Hi can anyone help answer my questions.

Hi everyone, hope you are all okay, or as okay as you can be.

At my last Rheumy appointment recently I had my left knee xrayed as it has been causing me problems. My consultant said he would organise a MRI of this knee and let the Orthopedic surgeon look at it.

I received a appointment for the MRI for tomorrow ( WED) but I also received a letter yesterday saying I had a appointment with the Orthopedic dept on 17th April and if this is my first appointment they may discuss surgery.

So my question is - do you normally get a appointment for the Orthopedic dept before you have had the MRI.?

Or has something showed up on the xray?

The other thing I wanted to ask and this sounds really weird, over that last week or so I have had a sweet taste in my mouth constantly, no matter how ofter I brush my teeth it still there. I wake up with a dry mouth in the morning and I know a lot of us on here have this.

I have increased the amount of Sulpha from 4 to 6 tabs a day as I am still off the MTX. I was taking Amitripyline for just over a week but had to stop this as it was making me really sleepy during the day. But I don't know if the Sulpha or Amitrip can casue this.

I cant really answer your question, but would say that the nhs do tend to work like the clappers between january and april each year to make sure they reach their targets and spend their allocated money in the pot before the new financial year. Having heard afew people say they have appointments come through speedily I'm guessing this might be the case.

Hi Mary - I'm up for a scan tomorrow too, but in Edinburgh not Glasgow. I will think of you!! I've seen the rheumatologists before having the scan, but now they want to see where I am before making a decision about my treatment. I hope yours goes well.

The ways of NHS booking departments are often strange - but at least this is the right way round! I've had appointments to discuss results scheduled before I've even had the tests/scans/whatever. It is quite likely that these appointments are automatic responses to your consultant having requested them, and nobody has actually looked at the x-ray. But at least not too long to wait to find out. Polly

I suppose it makes sence that my rheumy consultant made the appointment with the orthopedic surgeon at the same time he made the appointment for the MRI.
